What I did was uninstall VC completely, and then installed 2005 - checked if it worked, the re-installed 2008 - and it worked. I think something got overwritten wrongly when I installed Vis Studio 08 or something.

I noted that when I installed on Win7 Ultimate (x64) that the installer didn't automatically run the VC 2008 redist installer, nor the DirectX updater. I had to run them manually. Once I did so, I no longer had the problem that the OP did.

hello
thanks everybody for the advices; after trying to mess with visual C++ redist in various versions and directx as well, I gave up and installed windows 7 32 bit in place of the 64 bit. sh5 then ran smoothly at the first try... maybe I'll play sometimes with 32 bit and then try again to install it on 64.. thank you ciao |
