i disabled the sleep\hibernation thing a long time ago. when i shut the lid it does nothing.

the only mod i'm running is RA 1.1

When I use Nvidia video card(9800GTX+), I encountered similar problem time to time: Graphics Layer Detected Problems. but if often happen when I check 3d model in USNI REFERENCE

later, change AMD video card 5870, this kind of thing never happen again

therefore, I guess this is some kind of card driver problem for support DW

since you use Intel Intergrated-videocard, I suggest you try to roll back you video card diver to pre-2008 version, or update to the latest version, 2 direction try

Well then it's probably a temperature thing. There are applications (like speedfan) that can measure the cpu/case temperature and fan speeds when it runs in the background. See if you can get a temperature graph/log and look what happends if the lid is closed but the game keeps running.

But the best advise I can give is simply save whenever you're done for the moment.
