I hit a merchant in a port docked and one hit I actually saw it break in half!! So far about 200 torpedoes and 1 has been a one shot kill.

It always pays to read the actual reports before believing the hype. Kretschmer did indeed sink many ships with one shot. A large number of them were smaller (2000 tons or less) but at least one large tanker exploded and broke in half. On the other hand one 6000-to freighter took two torpedoes and 88 rounds from the deck gun, plus an unspecified number of gun rounds from Prien in U-47. It varied a lot in real life, but ships of 5000 tons or more usually needed at least two torpedoes to put down.

Jersey City (6,322 ton merchant in ballast) Sunk by single torpedo.

Lucerna (6,556 ton motor tanker) Hit by single torpedo and later shelled, survives.

Strinda (10,973 ton motor tanker) Hit by single torpedo in wing bunker, crew abandons ship, ship later returns to port under own power.

Elmbank (5,156 ton merchant carrying general cargo) Hit by single torpedo at 0447, falls behind convoy, U-99 commences shelling at 0600, fires 88 shells, U-47 shells her at 1500, setting her on fire, U-99 eventually sinks her with another torpedo.

i think you want to hit the keel a few feet or maybe meters below it and have it go off on mag. det. and that is how you see ships practicly snap like a toothpick out of the water.

i tried it in the first patch of sh5 and using the torp cam it seemed bugged and never would go off. And trust me i tried it a lot. Only a direct contact det ever worked, but i got 1 torp 1 kill shots many times in SH5 with the BARF mod and Torp Crit Hit mod. All were direct contact as close on the keel as i could though, no pressure bubble mag det below the ship keel worked.... maybe later in the campaign but i wouldnt put money on it.
