2. Like the others have said it is most likely a plane. Your sonar "usually" picks up a ship and drops you out of TC. But a plane is not detected and while the bomb is dropping the plane is still flying away at "high TC". So by the time you get the damage, drop out of TC, check the crew, surface the boat, the plane is long gone. The next time you get attacked on the surface, time how long it is until the plane is out of sight. It isn't very long. A lot less time than it takes to surface and look for him. How many times have you been on the surface, alerted that a plane is coming, know the direction it is coming from and still can't see it? It can also be the other things mentioned, but if you zoom in on the map, you should be able to determine if it was an atoll or island. Peabody
