I would imagine re-texturing a whole boat is a pretty serious job just by itself.

Ah-ha - the next challange Thanks for the info, Privateer. I'll just spend a little bit more time on the reflections and then look at the water streams.

For reflections I have been adjusting the "waterReflection@......" parameter which I have created in the sim file (having deleted it in the dat file). I have made the parameters the same as those for the VII's. Doing that has got rid of the great 'V' or 'U' shape darkness behind the sub (I see you initially had the same on the 14), but I don't get the reflection of the boat in the water - more than likely another parameter I also do not get water transparency around the boat.

As I said - long ways to go for me. Just thought I would throw it out to the community to see if anybody else was doing the same model - avoid duplication. Seems there are few people looking at new ships, boats and planes.

I wonder why many of you moders are working outside subsim, what's the reason to keep your work a secret? As far as I know, subsim is the best, if not the only place to look for SH mods. If the mod is not listed here, it not exist. Also, here is the community who can give a valid feedback about the mods, another reason to work here and not behind the stage. Same as TDW, Reaper and others do, constantly improving their work based on the community feedback.

I'm very happy to see and watch MLF WIP and I would be delighted to see other mods shaping out here, so we get hopes for improvements in SH5.

I don't think anyone is hiding anything, really. A lot of this, at least for me, is trial and error, learn as I go along. Make a change, fire up SH5 from scratch, check it out - just keep repeating the process over and over and over ad infinitum. I happen to have a bit of time on my hands as I am off work with a health problem at the moment and I need to keep the brain ticking over.

Until something really works, is fully tried and tested by me at least, I, for one, would be extremely reluctant to release anything to the community.

Privateer has been working on the Type 14 - this has been common knowledge on this forum. Other mods are coming out and are being tested/improved by the community.

I think the problem may be that SH5 just hasn't got the following of previous versions - just look at the number of reads per post, number of posts per day etc for SH5 against SH3 when it first came out.

I should imagine that some modders also get a bit weary of modding a version of Silent Hunter to do what it should have done in the first place, just to find that the next version has exactly the same problem but requires a complete rethink on how to solve it.

I must admit though, its very difficult sometimes to find the mods "hidden" amongst the "foliage" of anti-UBI moans and groans, even on the modding forum

Well, Privateer and few other good moders work outside subim.com on their mods.. I found out about Privater work only because Kylania mentioned his work on milk cow here and on the SH5 official forum. Later on I saw that Ducimus is also cooking up on something somewhere else.. so that why I asked. If subsim.com is not the best place to look and talk about mods.. then where?

Sorry for this offtopic

I expect you do, I expect you do

I think the last real mod I did was back in SH2 days - I'd really forgotten the patience required that I seem to be somewhat lacking now!

I am losing it seriously with Goblin Editor - forever crashing, and the mission editor Grrrrrrrrr!!!! Use Skwas' Silent 3editor a lot. The worst thing is understanding how all the files hang together.

Oh well, Percy Veer.
