Default Alice in Wonderland movie not what I was hoping for.

So I bought the new Alice in Wonderland movie with Johnny Depp for my 4 year old daughter and I was not all that impressed with it. I wanted something more horrifying and twisted. I wanted it to be more like American Mcgee's Alice.

Of course I wouldn't let my 4 year old watch something like that but chances are she'd just laugh at it while I'd be cuddled up against my wife scared out of my mind. Not really, but it makes a good excuse to press up against her boobs!

Eh, I have a friend who really likes Alice in Wonderland, and she thought the new one was pretty good Doubt I'll get to see it though.

I've seen it and I loved it.

I'm a big fan of Tim Burton movies and I think Johnny Depp is fantastic as the hatter.

Tim Burton did say in interviews he had to restrain himself since it is a Disney movie.

It is supposed to entertain children...not give them nightmares for the rest of their lives...

And we thought the same thing about Coraline, but I'm still having nightmares after watching that!

What I want to know is.. The book is a classic piece of literature. Why can't ANYONE acutally follow THE DAMN BOOK when making a movie of it ??? Seriously !!! Not one "Alice In Wonderland" movie has gotten it right yet !!

Ah, but that's true of so many movies, ever since the beginning. Some make a small attempt, some don't even try.

I was a little disappointed by the White Queen's chess soldiers. I thought they should have been bigger and less numerous to reflect the struggle of good against a sea of chaos, much as chess is a game of skill while cards are a game of luck. It also would have been cool if they moved like chess pieces. Like Blacklight, I'm not sure I totally approve of the reinvention of Wonderland. The book was a complex social satire, the movie is a 100-minute long sledgehammer that pounds the idea that nonconformity is good into viewers' heads. Not that I'm against nonconformity, far from it; I'm a rabid individualist, but even I got tired of the obvious parallels between the "real-life" characters and the Wonderland characters.

Even after all that, I'll probably watch it again, though only for what I would call a "visually-entertaining experience".

Not that that's always a bad thing, mind you

Thought it was okay. Johnny Depp saved the movie from being a flop imho
