I will gladly explain. The answer ("main point") was set forth in the post by I'm goin' down. It is quoted hereafter for your benefit.

As for grammar, may I retort? (I will anyway.) First sentence of your post: the pronoun "that" is incorrect and should be "which," and the verb "Don't" is incorrectly used and should be replaced by "did not" or "didn't." Second sentence: "Maybe its a public pm with hidden message." poses a question but lacks a question mark at the end of the sentence. The word "its" is possessive and should contain an apostrophe (ie., "it's".)

There is a line from the movie "Treasure of Sierra Madre" that is appropriate for this situation. I recount if for your benefit. Tim Holt and Humphrey Bogart, exhausted from hiking in the jungles and mountains of Mexico's Sierra Madre mountains in the search for gold, fall to their knees and grovel in the dirt, thinking that they have found the mother load. (They have stumbled upon "fools gold.") Walter Houston, the "old timer", finds this mistake to be hilarious. He dances an Irish jig in front of them, exclaiming something like this, "Ha. Ha. Ha. If you want to look at a couple of jack asses, look in a mirror. Two finer specimens you will never see! Ha. Ha. Ha."

Thanks for posting the story IGD. I'm using TMO 1.9 seems it's time to upgrade. And once I do upgrade I'll have to beware of those ships; gotta love the challenge.

Thanks for the FANTASTIC report IGD I must say they are always worth reading. Very informative and sometimes good for a laugh, which is something we all could use these days. Even the Ducimus reference in the title, I knew it had to be TMO.

If you don't like what the thread has to say, ignore it and move on to another thread.

@I'm goin' down:
Thanks for the info. I have yet to get involved in a gun battle with a Maru in 2.0, and after reading this, I'll probably not try it any time soon.

Hey, I can take whatever you want to toss my way. But is highly inappropriate to disparage another forum contributor by responding to their post and telling them indirectly to butt out, and that their comments do not warrant a substantive response. Your response is an insult and reflects the height of arrogance.

Incidentally, you may be unaware of the history of posts to Ducimus re TMO. My post did match the content, as many have posted comments that TMO is an ass kicker and the hardest mega mod out there.

Maybe I am mistaken, but I thought merchants had radar. If they do, then it is for one of two purposes.
1. Locate the enemy, so they can avoid contact.
2. Locate the enemy to engage it.

If I am correct, then silent running is a countermeasure. As I recall, Rockin Robbins' training videos for the O'Kane method applied silent running when settting up for an attack. I might be wrong in my assumption, however, re radar on merchants.

I see nothing wrong with the post or the tread in general. This is the general forums for SH4. Such post are ok here.

Exerpted from previous post in this thread:

Quote:
At first, the only machine-gun available was the Lewis gun, and in order to improve the defensive protection of merchant ships it was arranged that those Army Bren gun teams who were acquainted with the Lewis gun should give the necessary instructions to the crews...

As from 9th March, 1940, merchant ships and fishing vessels at sea between the East Coast and the mine barrage were authorized to engage by day and night any aircraft not recognized as friendly approaching them within gun range (850 yards), and aircraft were warned not to approach within 1,500 yards of ships
Quote:
The Germans used captured British Lewis Guns during World War II under the designation MG 137(e)[35], whilst the Japanese copied the Lewis design and employed it extensively during World War II;[34] it was designated the Type 92 and chambered for a 7.7mm rimmed cartridge that was interchangeable with the .303 British round.[36][37]

Interesting. I was within 1,000 yds. I did not know about the information in your post.

Silent running won't do anything to counter radar. It will counter sonar, which some of the merchants (or all?) have.
