Did they remove the deck gun?

I don't recall it having a deck gun. It was captured in 1944, so I would assume by that point in the war all the deck guns had been removed. But to echo what everyone else is saying, the artifacts and exhibits they have around the boat are worth the price of admission themselves.

Actually the deck gun got blasted off in an earlier patrol before being captured...

Go to the castle thing first. That way you can look forward to the 505 visit.

Check out the museum's website. IIRC they have a 3 hour special tour of the boat one or two Sundays a month. Try to time your visit with one of those.
