Noticed since upgrade to Win 7 that I am getting quite a few 'Silent Hunter 4 has stopped working, windows is look for a solution'. I presume no fixes will be made available?

I have been using Win7 for 6 months without a single problem that wasn't caused by my first install being in the Program folder.

501 all ready Red devil?
![]() ![]() Congrats by the way. ![]() Win 7. Don't load the game in the Programs Files folder but directly on the drive. Don't use the default GU.exe but SH4.exe., run as administrator. If you have mods be sure to run them as admin. also. See if these help if you haven't done them already. Magic edit BillBam is not as long winded as I am and types faster.

loaded into games folder, not program files. Mods in but nothing added or removed since upgrade to win 7. I use SH4.exe always, presume so anyway as I put disk in and click 'play'. I am admin on pc so presume all my progs are admin too? Might need to check that.

SH IV crashed several times when i installed it on win 7 64 bit (just as you described), it came to a point where it was impossible to finish even a single mission.
I right clicked the SH IV icon, chose properties and then compatability and made SH run in win XP SP 3 mode. Havent had a single crash after that, and its been about 3 weeks. now. might wanna give that a shot. nappy |

I made a shortcut to the sh4, loaded it into desktop and amended compatibility. So far so good, not a crash in 24 hours, but its very early days yet as it sometimes only happened a couple of times a week, or even less frequent than that. Next one, will tell you, if there is one.

What version of SH are you currently using, Red Devil? If it is v1.4 or v1.5, you don't need the disk to play SHIV. Just use the sh4.exe.

I need the disk, so I thought, so always put it in. Just checked and do not need it.
I am running RSRDC TMO v108; Websters better air patrols (just removed this as it does not work); torpex torps and smaller rocks mods.

Before my last 'crash' I had successfully completed a photo recon of Rabaul and the carriers hiding in there and was on my way out.
Having to do it again, and having adjusted my compatibility to Vista, the 'sound' of my sub is horrendously loud even when at 300, on silent running, I am being spotted as soon as I enter the region!! I sound like a bloody tube train! Needless to say I canot get within a few miles of Rabaul due to the 4 destroyers who seem to have superman like reflexes.
