Which platform is for the newbie the best to get a fast learning effect?

That's true about the Russian sonars. However, I've really started loving them after replacing the standard interfaces with the RA Victor (Akula) and Alfa (Kilo). These RA sonar stations have a really awesom bright-green-on-black color scheme which makes it so much easier to use. It's really changed my Russian subbing experience.

Oh and the 688i is only the easiest platform for people like you and me who played 688(i) Hunter/Killer and Sub Command.
