if you as the commander are physically manning the hydrophone station your operator wont be calling out contacts because your using his equipment. The only scenario i can think of this happening is when your looking out in external camera? or possibly using the navigation board (the wheel icon shortcut top right) other than that apart from not having a hydrophone equipped i have no clue.
or thinking about it, is your hydrophone damaged/destroyed? |

Let me help you..In SH5 Hydrophone does not work at periscope depth which is 12m (actually it should work at 10 m and less..)
You have to set your depth to at least 14 m,then it starts to work.weird but once you found out then it´s ok since periscope is long enough you can still use it at that level |

DerMo, you are right about the figure 10m, however, your actual hydrophone receiver must be 10m deep in order to function. Depth is measured from the keel. Therefore 14m give or take a few is realistic. Any shallower than 10m and waves had a tendency to distort the sound.
If going deeper does not help you, however, you might try Gouldg's ability balancing mod, I have been told that it fixes some problems with the sonarman.

i can't find the file thats controls it. is it possibly a sim file?
I did find the AA distance and increased the Flak range to 2,200M (the effective range of the Flak 38)
