Default Is this how it Happens??

Hi All,
I left off starting any campaigns until i was patched upto 1.2 and had installed the compatible mods. So its sept 3rd 1939 and i go into total Germany and am given only the Polish evacuation mission, so i fire it up to find i am woken up and told to report to the captain on the bridge !!! I thought i was the captain, when did i get demoted to IWO.
Anyway he gives me the speil and off we go, after which none of the drew will speak to me again........ no reports......no deck watch... nothing.
Is this whats meant to happen and if so when the hell do i get my own boat.
very puzzled Grayson

The Polish Invasion is the tutorial, after you complete this you go back to port and get your own sub. Crew speaking to you etc, happens after that. By the way, whenever you started a new campaign you should have seen the option to skip the tutorial

Yes this sounds normal. Although calling this section a tutorial is being infinitely generous. It's the worst effort at implementing a tutorial I've ever seen. It barely tells you anything except how to click on something.

Considering the kick in the teeth we all got as far as the manual quality goes (just like we did with SH4), a good set of tutorials is needed to prevent newcomers just giving up on the game due to frustration and confusion, which are also made wrose by bugs causing more confusion

Actually I agree

Many of the questions asked here are basic ones about the gameplay (something that wouldn't have been a problem had the manual actually been any good) What it needs is someone to write a basic "how to" thread and then for one of the forum moderators to sticky it.

There are already many many threads like it here , but it takes a fair bit of effort in search to get through the chaff to find them.

I would , but as I said in another thread I'm still playing SH3 at the moment, that said if nothing happens till I do start playing again then maybe I'll give it a go.

I've never had a truly great experience with the Silent Hunter series but maybe that's because I came in at SH4, desperately in need of a subsim fix since Sub Command days.

Is SH3 a far better experience?

Yup. Though after having played SH5 I find it difficult to deal with SH3's graphics, even though I distinctly remember they being awesome. Gameplay is amazing though, but since it's stuck in 1024x768 and I'm on a 1920x1200 monitor (none of the high rez mods work, the game almost didn't work for me) it's a very poor experience for me now.

Is the Silent Hunter developer team from the SH3 days the same bunch doing the series today? I just find if difficult to grasp how a developer can take a path that sees their franchise worsen over time. Was Ubisoft the publisher during the SH1 to 3 era too? Maybe this trend downwards coincides with their acquisition of the IP

I play a heavily modded Sh3 I use GWX3 plus a number of other mods and I find it awesome. Sure the graphics aren't as good as SH5 but the difference is that the modders have had a number of years to alter SH3 and make it a simulator of sorts.

I suspect that given enough time however, SH5 may well end up as good.

That's missing some vital information sadly. I had 60 screenshots made up for a full step by step tutorial, but got lazy and never posted it. heh

The main thing is that you MUST plot your course INTO Kiel harbor for the TC controls to show up. Most people don't do that and get confused. Vets just complain that TC works, but doesn't show up and new captains complain that it'll take them two REAL LIFE weeks to get back to Kiel at this rate. heh
