@AVG: look me up on FB

I deleted all of my personal data on there ecxept for photos. I NEVER talk about work on there.
The best part is, FB does not have my current e-mail. They (FB) doesn't like it, because they can't spam me.

I dumped all of the "applications" IE games when I realized they want access to your account, uh, no.

My first 12 hours on FB was a nightmare, as I recived >120 email updates for everything. After that, I was changing some setting and blocking everything.

The worst one was, my aunt make some blueberry muffins. Then ensued a plethora of postings: "umm good", can I [blah, blah, blah] your muffins. I got an email update every #$%^#%^ single time somebody posted something .

Note to everybody: I don't give a flyin' &^%^&%*&%$ , *(%&$%%^ about your muffins.

BUT, payback is a bitch, and I post weird stuff too, like metallica videos and Russian poetry (in cyrrilic)

I must be one of the dwindling number of people who have an account but don't understand the damn site

There are two kind of people, those on facebook and those who aren't.
I compare those who aren't with the Neanderthals, because they want to stay in the past and use jungle drums to interact, and the modern people who want to move forward, develop and use the latest technology.
Now, we all know the modern people pushed the Neanderthals to the side.

Okay, this was a bit provocative, but it is like that. If you don't keep up, you will be put to the side. If you like being at the side, then don't worry.

But if you want to be part of the modern social life, Facebook is definitely the current mean of communication with current and old friends.

Personally, I have used FB since the summer of 2007, and in the beginning, the games were part of it, but not anymore. Nowadays, the games at FB is a big POS, collecting personal info. But FB is still fine to stay up-to-date with what your family and friends do and did by looking at their photos and statuses. And you do have the choice to only show some parts to some people if you just use your brain a little bit. So FB isn't that bad if you just use it wisely.

Mwah, don't quite agree with that. While I do have a Hyves (Dutch "Facebook", much more popular than the "real" facebook here) account, it's pretty dead at the moment. If I want to communicate with friends, I msn/sms/call them.

Especially so with my "current friends", I see most of them often enough to not see the need for any Hyves/Facebook communication.

Besides, you can't get out on Facebook. Not enough beer there

No sir, I'm right there with you. Every time I sign in is "WTH?" What have they changed now? Once I signed in and it said my PW was compromised and I should change all my passwords on email accounts...WTH? Then there are the game players....WTH? I click "hide." I mean really, I did not join on the first offer to make a damn farm. I will not join on the second invite...WTH? I do not care if you are in Mafia Wars or you just purchased a pig for your farm..WTH? Can't anyone just say, "Hello"? I visit the site about once a week....WTH?

Balderdash.

It's not a question of using the latest technology. It's a question of whether or not one particular aspect of "the latest technology" provides something that one needs and wants. If it doesn't, there's no reason to use it. That doesn't make one a Neanderthal, it just makes one completely uninterested in the services it supposedly provides.

You do know that you can hide farmville, mafia wars and what else once and for all, right?
In the news feed, move the mouse to the center colonne and an option will appear "remove" or "hide", then you can choose to remove that person or that application from the news feed. End of story. You'll never see it again.

IMO, facebook and other social networking sites are just plain dumb. In my mind, it is just common sense to not post personal information about yourself on the internet. In some instances, A name and a birth date is all someone needs in to use/steal your identity. The more information about you that is available, the greater your risk. From this standpoint, facebook is complete lunacy.

I do hide them. It gets so muddled after a while.

My take on it is, if I still wanted to be in touch with people I lost touch with 10-20 years ago, I woudn't have lost touch with them in the first place. And, to be honest, I put quite a lot of work into losing touch with a few of them. I would hate to see all that effort wasted.

Well written.

I keep in touch with my friends via phone, mail, E-mail and, gasp, even meeting face to face!!!

I just don't see the reason to keep in touch with every person I ever met in my life.

Besides the last time I was online, I ran into a 14 year old girl posing as an FBI agent and boy was that embarrassing.
