I started a new campaign, skipping the tutorial, and saved immediately after the game started. I exited the game, started up ACS and selected my save game. It listed "Happy_Times" as my next campaign option. I selected it and clicked OK. It cycled through some things and said 'Done'. I then repeated this process of starting ACS, selecting my save game and picking the next step in the campaign string. I did this till I'd selected "Black May", the final campaign section. At this point I started Silent Hunter 5 and loaded my save. On the Save game list "Total Germany" was listed. When I got into game I was in Kiel. However... once I talked to the Flotilla Commander I noticed that it was March 1st, 1943! The listed campaign was "Black May"! And I could select the "Tonnage War" mission. After selecting the mission and starting my patrol I found myself in Lorient instead of Kiel, ready to start the Black May campaign! Now, while this process does allow you to pick any campaign to start there is a large drawback. You're stuck in the VIIA! The first time you try to upgrade, nothing will be available, just like the beginning of Total Germany. If you begin a patrol and end it right away you'll have more upgrade options. The full range of torpedoes, some upgraded flak, a Metox and new hydrophones, but nothing else. You'll also only have 2000 Renown, so won't be able to afford most of the few upgrades available. It will also be March 15th, 1943. You'll have lost 2 weeks for a few upgrades. So... it does work, but doesn't leave you in a strong position. |
