one thing regarding wind i have noticed that does seem to have an impact---and i'm not sure if this is a genuine in game effect of some form of glitch to be honest--
is the effect it has on your ability to maintain a straight heading when travelling cross wind--keep an eye on your rudder indicator whilst traveling along a plotted course--more often than not you see it is set at 3 degrees port or similar instead of 0 degrees (alarmingly i saw it go right up to full opposite rudder -40 degrees- during a storm once--and i was still travelling on a dead straight plotted course) which obviuosly would have you going round in a slow circle rather than travelling along a straight course-- i thought there was summat wrong with the game but when the weather changed to calm it returned to 0 degrees-- :hmm: only thing that makes any sense at all (other than a glitch) is that the wind speed and direction affects the waves or some such effect forcing the game to compensate with a small amount of opposite rudder-- as you say tho haven't seen any effect on smoke etc on a stationary ship-
