Default A Suggestion for SH5 Super-Modders

I think it is apparent now, even to the most strident UBI supporters among us, that if anything decent comes of this game, it will be because of the modders. UBI's approach, from development to release to communications to support has been nothing short of disgraceful... demonstrating an unbelievable arrogance and utter disdain for their customers.

But, as as i've said elsewhere, I'm a bit torn about that... the modders to the rescue I mean. On one hand I really want a good sub sim to play, and I very much appreciate the efforts made by (a relatively few) talented folks willing to put in the time and work to make that happen.

On the other hand it is maddening to think that, because of those modders, UBI will be associated with a quality product to which they have no rightful claim. To make matters worse, some of that undeserved benefit will be in the form of $$$... improved sales numbers.

So I was thinking... you know what would serve UBI right?

When/if the much hoped for super mod - that finally turns this bucket of dreck into a real game - makes it's appearance, it would be great if one of the mods included was an alteration to the title graphics and opening movie sequences. If it were up to me I would completely obliterate any reference to UBI and the name Silent Hunter, and substitute... something. Anything.

When the game loads, it should be plain as plain could be, that the goodness you are about to experience comes, not because of UBI, but in spite of them.

Changeing all that is easy.
And most past mods have done some sort of changes in this area.
One thing that is left in is the Ubi logos and such.

It is thier release after all.
And do you think any sane person/group would want full credit for
what is probably the worst release of a continuous series ever?

Many prolific modders as well as the devs themselves have made mention of the fact that creating this antagonistic "us vs. them" attitude is counter productive and not welcome.

It's a two way street - you mention that a vibrant mod community helps with sales, but what you fail to mention is that without the release of SH5, there'd be nothing for a modder to work on.

Yeah, but no SH5 at all may have been the best case scenario for us. Wasn't GWX4 well underway (or at least in the deep planning stages) when they pulled the plug?

Given what we know now, who wouldn't prefer a GWX'ed SH4 over SH5?

I don't know about you, but I'd much prefer a GWX'ed SH5!

SH5 is in every way better than SH4.

No base version of SH3, SH4 & SH5 = No Supermods.

No UBI release = No Supermods.

Modders cannot produce this content that community members clamor for without the groundwork layed by the devs/studio. Modders and members alike should always recognise that fact

Here's a suggestion I'm sure many of the super-modders follow: don't read these kinds of threads.

But, But, But...
We get baited in so well.

And PLEASE!
Drop the GWX this and that stuff.
As many have pointed out?
There's a LARGE number of modders here abouts.

All are needed to fix this thing We Loveingly call SH5
(I'd get keelhauled again if I used my name for it)
Some cringe at the GWX thing and may put them off
a group effort.

If there are a large number of different groups?
None talking to each other?
We face an uphill struggle.
And a world of mods that hate each other!
The guy that ends up getting shafted is the average user.

That's the guy We, as Modders, should be looking out for!
Not looking to get our names in headlights for the sake
of 'Who is the best!'

I'm out to watch over the Guy that knows only how to start the
computer and launch the Game.
I could not care less if he knows who I am.
Just so he has the best possible Game experience he can find is my goal.

I think you misunderstand. I considered SH3 and SH4 to be at least at industry standard levels with regard to delivering what was advertised, quality and the overall state of completion. I had no problem with UBI or these devs... until SH5.

JD
And you would be wrong, just go back and play SH3 and SH4 unpatched, stock and then compare.

A Pint I can do but is not needed.
(Although free drinks are my favorite brand! So I'll be sure to post future travel plans to collect said donations.)
By the way?
