Obviously when you saved the game and went to bed, or watched TV, you gave the crew of the battleship enough time to repair the damage. I don't see the problem, all makes sense to me.

Ha Ha. Yeah, amazing what they could do: stationary, listing to port, water washing the deck, flames everywhere and then making 14 knots when I returned 10 minutes later.

Damage control was really top notch in the Royal Navy.

At any rate I still sank her (very quickly in the end), but that shot of leaning to port would have been pretty cool.

Haven't played SH5 yet, but in SH3 I've had good luck with blowing holes in the bottom of the hull. Sunk a Nelson very quickly with three right under the keel, but only needed two. Able to repeat the sequence on all manner of warships (DD and larger). If you have good weather try using magnetic pistols and set the run depth to 1-1.5 meters below keel depth and see how that works for you. Hopefully that will still work in SH5 and you won't have to use as many eels.

There are a lot of things that dont get saved in SH5 when saving. In fact I think the only things that do, are your total tonnage sunk, ships sunk, carreer status, position at sea and the course you have plotted.
All else seems to get erased each time you return to a save.

But I aslo think that this is being addressed in the upcoming patch, at least it had better be.

Maybe, maybe not. This has been a problem with SH3 & 4. That's why one of the unwritten rules was not to save when anything else is around. Strange things could occur if a game was saved with ships nearby.

I did the old save and reload and ran into a group of 10 destroyers under 1000M away!

Thank heavens I hadn't installed an A.I mod yet

In the simpler and much older days (DOS era, Command: Aces of the Deep) you'd get a "prompt" stating: You can not save now, you are in the middle of a battle - or something similar. So you knew it was a "feature" from the beginning. Of course it was an era were most manuals were read by the players to learn about the game beside their PC and not in the toilet prior to be discarded with the rest of the ... uhmmm solid waste?

comment on game manuals not SH5 specific ... only.

i had something similar happen in the same session. Warship was laying heavily damaged, dead in the water. I put a mark on the map before i went to the nearest port for fresh torps to finish the job. When i returned, no warship to be seen at the spot

If a ship sinks when you are out of range then you wont get the credit for it and there will be no mark on the map.

I suspect that this is what happened in this case matey.
