Hey gang. After a long absense, I installed SH3 again. Read all about SH5 and decided to pass.
At any rate, can someone point me in the right direction for a guide on editing the .cfg files? More specifically, time compression settings? Did a quick search for .cfg, and I found alot of post talking about people cheating and stuff, but not the help I was looking for. Thanks. |

If your only looking to edit the TC setting why don't you just get SH3 commander? It does exactly that as well as a whole bunch of other good features
Edit: I've been beat |

Thanks gang. I joined a few years ago, but never posted till now
![]() I was kinda hoping to keep the install kinda stock. I am sure if I look hard enough, I can figure it out again. Just thought there might be a handy guide laying around somewhere to save time is all. Thanks again. |

data\Cfg\Main<----- this is the file you want to edit for TC.
It's the second set of lines that you want to edit, they look like this: [TIME COMPRESSION] TimeStop=0 RealTime=1 LandProximity=4 CriticalDamage=1 CrewEfficiency=1 AirEnemyDetected=1 SoundEffects=2 CharacterAnim=4 EnemyDetected=8 RadioReport=8 Particles=8 PrayState=8 HunterState=32 3DRender=32 Maximum=1024 To make a JSGME compatible mods, copy and paste that file onto your desk top, make the changes with Notepad, save. From there it is a matter of creating the proper folder\file structure for JSGME, so... 1) New Folder, name this for your mod; 2) New folder, name this data; 3) New folder, name this Cfg; 4) Put the Main Cfg file that you edited into the Cfg Folder; 5) Put the Cfg Folder into the data Folder; 5) Finally put the data Folder into the folder than you named your mod; 6) You know have a JSGME Compatible Mod. Put this into your Mods Folder and activate ( while in port ) with JSGME. To review the folder\file structure of your new mod should look like this: Time Compression Mod (Folder)\data(Folder)\Cfg(Folder)\Main(Cfg File that you edited ) Important: To make your life much easier, be sure to copy and paste that Main Cfg File to your desktop, and preferably one that is clean, meaning it has not been altered by other mods. Work with this file progressing to making the JSGME Compatible Mod, that way if you mess something up, it's just the mod messed up, not your main SH3 files. Also, if you want to edit your mod, make sure you deactivate it first. Last edited by ReallyDedPoet; 04-29-10 at 09:47 PM. |

Stay on the Vanilla version for a while, as you didn't play for a while, then, as there is no doubt you'll get tired fretty soon, get the last version of GWX.
Also there are stickies on top of page for newbies and about game tricks that you sould read as well as look at some videos. Fette Beute !! ![]() |

If you edit the file mentioned above, then don't notice any changes in the game, that's because that file is the master copy that gets copied to your MyDocuments folder when the SH3 folder there is first created.
If you really want to edit the file directly, it's My Documents\SH3\data\cfg\main.cfg (at least under XP, not sure about Vista or 7). Be sure to make a copy first in case something gets messed up or in case you want to go back to the original. Be careful what you change, and make sure the numbers are powers of 2. Increasing max time compression, the value should be 2048 or 4096. I've made many changes here during testing and had no problems with making the changes when out on patrol rather in base, probably because the game starts at 1x time. Your mileage may vary. The best way to make the changes is to use SH3Commander because it doesn't let you use an invalid number, and automatically changes the correct file. Hook |

Screwing around with time compression can cause all sorts of problems with the game.
SH3CMDR does this safely. CMDR does not make any permanent changes in your install; neither does JSGME. You need both; if you read the readmes included with the programs, everything is very clear. If you need any help, just ask for it.

Cool, thanks again. Got the time compression sorted out. And like before, I found myself looking for the deck gun layouts so I can get rid of the star shells, LOL.
I have SHIV, but prefer SH3 to be honest. SHV is not gonna happen. Kinda glad I got an older system that may not run it. New career, underway! |
