The 12 Steps of SH3 Anonymous
  1. We admitted that we were powerless over SH3 and that Bernard had become unmanageable.
  2. We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. His name is Admiral Dönitz.
  3. We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Onkel Karl, as we like to call him.
  4. We made a searching and fearless inventory of our provisions and ammo.
  5. We reported to Onkel Karl, our flotilla chief, and our crew the exact location of any contacts we encountered.
  6. We were entirely ready to have our itchy necks scratched with the appropriate decoration.
  7. We humbly asked for an upgrade to our hydrophones.
  8. We made a list of all the ships we had sunk, and had the crew paint pennants to commemorate all of them.
  9. We made directly for our patrol grid whenever possible, except when doing so would mean passing up a lone unescorted merchant.
  10. We continued to take inventory of our stores and armament and when we ran low promptly set a course for home.
  11. We sought through radio transmissions to improve our contact with Onkel Karl, asking only for directions to the nearest convoy and the fuel reserves to intercept it.
  12. Having had a successful patrol as a result of these steps, we tried to get home without hitting a mine, getting depth charged into oblivion, or letting Bernard steer the boat.

Both lists printed multiple times and posted on bathroom mirror, in shower, above kitchen sink, and on the wall across from my toilet.

Welcome to Subsim, U-48KM.

Once that cold Atlantic water gets in your veins, you can never totally get away from SH3.

I have made this step last week. I couldn`t see the speeding merchants
anymore and 10 or more destroyers round a merchant.....etc....

I did miss the pings and the realistic gameplay and the olc/magui and the
scary feeling when a destroyer is hunting you...and with the flakmonkey`s mod
the narrow onboard feeling...and the freedom to hunt...and....and....and....
i missed too much...

Addicted is the wrong word.

Do people claim to be addicted to eating fresh fruit?
Do people claim to be addicted to doing good deeds?
Do people claim to be addicted to having good hygiene?

No. Because in common usage, being addicted means that you are doing something that is bad for you.

Playing SH3 is not bad, but good for you.

We are not addicted to SH3, we are committed to SH3.

I dunno Platapus,...

I'm not getting much of my choirs done anymore since I started commanding a U-Boat. Things are starting to stack up 'round here. To the point, it's just not heathy.

If you find yourself unable to do all your chores because you are playing SH3. The solution is self-evident. Reduce the number of chores you have to do!

Kitchen dishes piling up. Well throw them out and stop using the kitchen. You should be eating old tinned meat and wilted vegs anyway!

Shower needs cleaning? WTF! The shower is for storing the aforesaid tins of meat, not for showering!

See, you can get rid of a lot of time wasting chores so you can focus on the important things in life.

Now with playing in real-time, that would be the ultimate u-boot sim ever.

I think that even if the OSP/DRM was patched out of SH5 I still wouldn't get it! Amazes me that even essentials like the KM grid map is replaced by Longitude/Latitude! What a step backwards!!
Yes SHIII Still say they should have used SHIII and upgraded the graphics, the old saying comes to mind "If it's not broken then don't fix it!".

Personally I installed voice commands and play on a low time compression whilst I go about doing my chores and homework. Nothing quite like leaping up to get to the computer whilst screaming "CRASH DIIIIIVE!!!!!" if an aircraft is spotted.

Funnily enough I now find myself doing work or chores just to justify playing SHIII now
