Default New assignement

Since Saturday I am owner of DW deLuxe, so I am aboard from now on - beware the dog . Haven'T had much opportunity to get into it, plenty of work, appointments, visitors, system gone for repair until today, but I really must hail the manual - not only nice in size but also very well structured. This one and F4 manual have honoured places on my shelves.

1.01, Database fix, the mod enabling helicopters to use their dips - any other >essential< addings that I should set my sights on before 1.02 is there? BTW - where is it? Is there consensus on wether the mod by Amizaur and Luftwolf is considered to be essential fix, or more a question of taste? Difficult to judge for me if it really is adressing "damaged" or "wrong" things.

I never tried the helo dipping mod. As I recall there were issues with your helos when playing solo in the OHP. The font mod is a must also.

Really? I play solo with OHP (and I use helo dipping corrected doctrine) and my helos usually do what I tell them to do. What exactly you refer to?

I also use small fonts mod (a must!). Also, LW and Amizaur "one stop mod" but I installed only doctrines from this package (not the modded database, as frankly I am lost in as to what the new DB does - the thread about this mod is very confusing). Amizaur's corrected doctrines work fine though, as far as I can tell.

I also plan to install Crazy Ivans true russian voices for my Akula as soon as I get the clicking problem solved. Ivan's voices are great, but it's not that I am that crazy about my men speaking russian (which I barely understand) but in my opinion russian voice acting in the game is absolutely dreadful (worst part of the game for me LOL).

I also use old mods with ambient sounds, some guy made for SC quite a long ago. I adapted those sounds to provide ambient sound in DW (only for subs).

The database mod adds and changes characteristics of in-game objects.

The purpose of this is to allow the other parts of the game which function very well on their own (I suspect the AI generally is very sound, as it accomodates DB changes extremely smoothly) to give ships, subs, and torpedos realistic behavior.

The readme is very thorough in explaining the changes made. I am going to completely rewrite it for the new version of the mod. Are there any parts that you find particularly unclear?

Cheers,
David

Without going into specifics, the thread about your mod got me thoroughly confused in some parts.

I am glad you'll be rewriting the documentation for the next release.

Thanks for the input, guys. I'll check the database mod carefully in a few days, after I got into the swing of things again.

Preparing for a new job, many appointments because of that; beeing busy with increased sports program again; having a visitor over the weekend (bought DW from him ); and finally and most important: my system broke down late Tuesday and after ripping it apart and putting it together again and the proboems still beeing there I gave it away for checkout and repairs until today. Problem seem to have been broken RAM.

It was mentioned when it first came out as a maybe. Dont think it was tested much at the time. If youve been using it though it must work. Am going to try it.

Still mentions this at Bills site:
"Note: Although the above file fixes problems with how AI-helicopters use their dipping sonar, it can also interfere with the player's control of his helo when playing as a FFG-7. If you intend to use this file, keep a copy of the original just in case! Hopefully, Sonalysts will give us an official, updated file soon."

I've been using Bill's Helo dipping doctrine for sometime and I have experienced no problems at all.

Pigfish mentioned a "font mod". I assume it is for increasing font size in 1280 resolution, which really is a must, isn't it (my eyes are looking like those of a vampyre...). But where to find it? I cannot find it either here nor on Subguru's site, searching for a mod with "font" in it's title.

Bill has linked his site to another on the downloads page.

Here is the direct link.

I see, and the font mod seems to have a complete different function than I thought. Will try it out, nevertheless.

Thanks.

Just played my first quick mission, managed to run my sub into the ground of the english channel - never achieved that proof of sailsmanship with SC, never! :rotfl:

The font mod will shrink the text a bit, so that more than two (and a half empty) line will be shown. It is also much faster to render than the default one, resulting in the loss of some slowdowns. (particularly command menus, when right-clicking on the navmap or the second-from-left taskbar button)

These mods look good. However, will the installation of the new patch from SCS (when it arrives) have an impact on these mods if they are installed (especially the texture mods)?
