It is pointless trying to hide behind half sunk ships in SH3 because the ships sensors can still 'see' you.

Ships cease to be rendered/viewable when they are destroyed (but not usually until they sink completely)

You might want to consider giving GWX3.0 a gp.....the files are available from my FF account (link above my sig) and there are comprehensive installation instructaions available at the GWX website 9click on my sig).

GWX also comes with a very comprehensive manual.
