First patrol. August 1939. Not too hard to play at 100% realism when all you have to do is not run into anything for four days.

Please, let me know how you like it.
It certainly is a different game, without all the perks.

It's the fact that things can, and do, get screwed up that realy keep it exciting.

Well I am on my second (first combat) patrol now and I really really REALLY like it! Mainly because I decided to use Commander to fool the game into thinking that my current realism options actually do add up to 100%.

Basically I finally decided that, after several weeks of not really "playing" because I was just trying to work the kinks out of all the mod combinations I was looking at, what's fun for me right now is to go out, sink ships, live to tell the tale, and get amply rewarded for it. So for the time being whatever options I choose are going to be 100% realism for me.

When that gets too easy I'll ratchet the difficulty level up a notch or two.

Oh! Now I see. That's cool.
Maybe you should call it "100%", with quotation marks?
(At least you have to drive yourself home now. That in itself is quite an addition.)

I confess I came very close to putting a value of 1 on one of the options I wouldn't select now anyway, thus keeping my realism to 99%, so I would still have the option to teleport home.

But when I started using limited fuel the point of that was to make it so I would have to take into account the journey home when I was looking at fuel consumption and reserves, which I have done a good job of so far - the only reason I ever teleported after that was if I was just loading a patrol to test a mod out and then needed to exit again so I could make some changes, or maybe because I was very close to home anyway but didn't want to plod slowly through the harbor as constant ship/plane sightings dropped me to 8 TC over and over again.

Now If don't feel like dealing with the harbor traffic I use Commander to start and end at sea, so that's not really an issue. And if I'm testing mods I don't get fair enough away from my start point that teleporting is even necessary to re-dock.

Plus I like keeping patrol logs and it wouldn't look right if it showed a ship sunk in grid AM52 one day and then "returned: Wilhelmshaven" the next.

(I should add that the first patrol, I did actually play at "real" 100% realism. Since there was no hunting or being hunted, it wasn't really much of a difference, except I kept hitting the key for ShipCam and then grumbling because I didn't have one!)

You're braver than me. All sightings drop my TC to 1.

Well planes seem to drop to one automatically and I used Commander to make it drop to 1 for enemy ships but how do you get it to drop to 1 for friendlies/neutrals?

I edited mine in the actual game files. I stick with 99% because, like, what if I lose my rudder, man?

One of the options I leave on is Weapons Officer Assistance. Between 'Manual Targeting' and the Assisted Plotting mod it feels real without being too hard. I make up for it by taking many sightings, so there is a chance they'll spot my scopie.

Same here. I cruise out of the harbor in real time. For the Kiel Canal I use the mod that makes them see it once and shut up.
