The wooden deck looks good, but I think it is a little too orange-brown. Check this thread at uboat.net for one of the many discussions in there on decks etc.
http://www.uboat.net/forums/read.php...,55537,quote=1 "As for the wooden deck, there is no FS equivalent because it changed so much in appearance due to weathering. As covered elsewhere in this forum, it was coated with a black woodpreservative, and so started out as black. Exposure to the elements soon rendered the deck a muddy grey colour with a brown tinge. The more the deck was subjected to weathering, the lighter and browner it became." The texture probably should be less colour saturated, and it should look even more realistic. ![]() A few colour photos showing deck colour: (as far as I have read in soooo many threads at uboat.net, all decks were wooden, only the pattern of the planking differed) ![]() ![]() ![]() I actually did consider changing the deck colour when making the first skins, but as I tweaked the shadow map, I thought that the stock deck came to look pretty close to what I've seen on the WW2 colour photos. Yours' are correct and perfect. I have always switched my decks to a nice walnut looking color. i figure if I'm a big time Sub Ace the Furer would let me pimp my sub with some hard wood decking. I can't believe I'm gonna say this in a forum, but, I like hardwood.
![]() I just wanted to show you what I did. I did not expect people would like it, or I would have done a hell of alot more to weather it up a bit. I think it represents wet dark wood being wore down very well. I did it very quickly, I have some time off, maybe I wll actually put sometime into it and wear it out a little. maybe go to the country and take photos of old barn wood to use as a scheme. Hmm, would it work?

Don't get me wrong, I think that your more warm brown wooden colour looks really good. ![]() ![]() |
