Default Cant shoot straight...

Ok guys, I admit, I am a lousy shooter when it comes to torpedos... If the boat is completely immobile, say inside a port, I'll get up to about 500m from it and get sure hits. But when it comes to convoys moving, say at 5knots, my torpedoes tend to miss a lot. Makes me wonder:

1) What is the optimal firing distance for my torpedos? Is there a "too close" concept? (I thing in SH3 if you fired too close the torpedo did not have time to arm itself, same here?)

2) What is the "torpedo speed" lever for? Should I set it to the fasteast or the slowest or it depends? I guess it depends, but how should I base my decision?

3) Generally speaking, what the heck am I doing wrong...???

Thanks guys!

The torpedo speed lever is for... well take a wild guess. Personally i think the speed you choose depends on the distance to the target. This because at a higher speed, the torpedoes have a smaller range. So what i always do is put the speed lever as high as the distance approves.

As an optimal firing distance i usually keep 2500 to 1500 meters but i can remember reading somewhere that 800 meters is a minimum distance. Not sure about this though.

I think the important question in this matter is: do you use auto tdc or manual tdc?

Auto TDC, for lack of understanding the difference. But I have no love for it. Any sugestions on what I should be using?

Torpedo speed is torpedo speed. If you have correct firing solution, it determines only time before impact.

Minimal torpedo distance is not more than 350 meters. I usually shoot at 400 - 600 meters and have no problems.

There are some nice torpedo shooting tutorials here.
