Default newby looking for advice

Hi all,

I have been following the forum for some time now and have installed several mods to go along with SHIII and plan to upgrade to GWX 3.0 in the near future. However there have been several mods which I have downloaded only to find that it is based on wordpad and is comprised entirely of code (or whatever) and is unable to be installed into SHIII. Im just curious as to how to get the mods to work.

Any comments are truly appriciated

Precisely which mods are you making reference to?

Thanks for the quick reply and the welcome!

Some mods like Sansals Milk cow mod, the War radio mod and the Military mod to name a few have all turned up wordpaded.

Hmm thats a new one. What are the file types being shown as??

Im thinking the most likley problem is that your pc is associating either .rar or .7z files with wordpad instead of their respective programs.

On the file download box it says the file name is rar_auto_file.

I dont know if that's significant or not.

Do you have either winrar or 7zip installed on your machine?

If not you will need to download one of them (my preference is for 7zip as it will unpack both .rar and 7z files and i find its a bit more stable).

Once you have DLd and installed 7zip or winrar (or if you already had them installed) right click on the downlaoded mod file and choose "open with" and select 7zip/winrar to open the archive.

Failing that id suggest maybe there has been a problem with the download resulting in corruption, so try re-downloading the mods.

Let me know how you get on

Hi and welcome to the forums. I too will be installing SH3 and GWX3 soon (needed to purchase new copy due to old one having StarForce) and my question is does GWX3 have Sansals Milk cow mod, the War radio mod and the Military mod built in? If yes then it would solve the above issue right?

Hi guys.

GWX 3.0 includes and improves upon the old Milk Cow mod by Sansal... to also include resupply ships like the Corrientes and the Brake.

The military mod was included in much older releases of TGW/GWX... but has been superceded by GWX improvements and the original military mod is no longer compatible with GWX.

If I recall correctly, the war radio mod you speak of is for "SH3 Commander" which is an external program you can run parallel with GWX. (Follow the directions in the GWX manual CLOSELY though.)

Sink'em all!
