If you are playing stock it is not necessary to "chase" convoys, there will be another one along soon, or you will find one by patrolling an area. Convoys in stock usually travel about 11 knots or so, depending what ships are in the convoy, so you can move away until you are out of contact and surface and get ahead of it. But you run the risk of using too much fuel and having the convoy change direction and you can't find it again. Detection depends on the night/day, weather, distance from the convoy etc. On important thing to note in the stock game, if you are within contact range of a convoy, task force or just a couple of DDs. If you use Time Compression it is a Destroyer magnet. So once you make contact and start to move into position to get your shot, do not use time compression or the DDs with instantly detect you and head in your direction. (Most of the time) Peabody
