No your not out of your mind at all, I too have noticed this as well but it took a while to confirm what im hearing.
Your right, it only increases in volume not pitch. And it's annoying and unrealistic. I dont know how or what would have to be messed with though, maybe Capthelm can do something with it perhaps, he seems well versed on sounds.
