well, that was right out of the heart; you have points though, but with MINIMUM of patience you can patch your crap game to a reasonable sim,

as far as Neals input I woudn't judge that hard, he will give us an honest assesment in no time

I'm sorry, but you based your purchasing decision on a preview? And that's somehow Neal's fault? If you are going to make your decision on someone's opinion, I'm a little surprised you didn't wait for them to review the retail version.

By all means express your opinion, but you might acknowledge that you didn't wait for a complete review on the product you bought.

SH5 is an absolute failure and I am/will be getting my CASH back for this massive mistake. It reminds me of what happened to Far Cry; UBI and DEV team butchered it and turned it into console crap. Add this dumb DRM to SH5 and it's a pure failure--how in the world could Neal Stevens NOT see this in his PREVIEW? Somebody, please tell me? It's very simple, the preview was based on a beta version of the game. Naturally, they cannot send me a finished version of the game to do a preview, because it is not finished. And nowhere did I say that the game was "fantastic! Awesome! Must-have!", did I? Did you even read the preview? Maybe you missed this:

Quote:
Normally, with a preview I do not mention bugs or glitches--one shouldn't expect a preview build should to be polished or complete. But with Ubisoft waiting until the eleventh-hour to send out preview copies, it's hard to ignore the current state of the game. How much can the dev team improve the game in a month or so? Based on the condition of the preview build, I don't think it's a stretch to expect a Day 1 patch. There are some questions that cannot be fully answered until the game is released: What state is the game in?..... Will long-time Subsim players buy another unfinished game? And, most importantly, will Ubisoft support the game in the months ahead with patches that refine the game and complete the gaps that should have been in place to start with?
You do understand what subtext is, don't you?

There is no way for me or any reviewer to accurately predict what a game will be like when it is released in March 2010, based on a beta from late 2009. I could have said, "Oh, based on this beta, the game will be a disaster!" but I could have very easily been flat wrong, and in any case, not very responsible.

Does that answer your question?
Neal

The really Big Questions are: will the game sell better to the casual gamer than SH3/SH4? Will long-time Subsim players buy another unfinished game? And, most importantly, will Ubisoft support the game in the months ahead with patches that refine the game and complete the gaps that should have been in place to start with? I say it will take all three to save this franchise.

One area where Silent Hunter V has taken a big step back is the interface. Gone are the small telegraph, compass, and depth dials. In their place are Win7 style controls that look out of place in a U-boat.

By now everyone knows that you will need a constant online connection to play Silent Hunter V, it's part of the anti-piracy copy protection Ubisoft has adopted. Just exactly how the game will react if you get a momentary blip in your connection is not firmly established. and the game continued. Other tests showed the game paused after several minutes of no connection. In theory, the game should save and allow you to resume where you left off, but again, until empirical tests can be administered, we will have to wait and see.
So in my opinion Neal said there was alot wrong with the game. I cant see how you didnt notice (if you fully read his preview).

After reading feedback from competent and properly-critical member such as this: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=164428

I must say that the real joke here is this thread and every other thread where the OP's primary agenda is not to provide an assessment of the game but to exercise his/her supposed entitlement to unwarranted attention anytime they are unhappy. A story that repeats over and over on this forum sadly... when will people just stop making new threads for the same damn thing?

Ok, I just bought the game, as far as I know it is waiting for me at the post office.

previously I wasn't going to do that - DRM one thing, but the fact that the game seems to be dumbed down, etc, buggy and all the good old traditions the series used to cherish are there. However, the lad responsible for the new/old dials for SH5 gave me hope ;-) Now I think that "ok, maybe I have to pay some money for this Silent Hunter 5 Software Dev Kit, but I strongly believe that in the future there will some patches and, what is more, great mods appear. It was like this with SH3, SH4. Ok, it is a damn shame that these games NEED mods to be splendid simulations, but I can live with that. I curse UBI for releasing unfinished product again, from what I've been reading so far - this company clearly shows what they think bout their customers. We as the community spoiled them with GWX and other wonderful mods.

Now if you don't like it - don't play it. Maybe put it on a shelf and wait somoe time and come back when it is patched and modded. Or get your refund. But do not bash the person who previewed the game and pointed out early version's shortcomings. You could wait and read some reviews, it was your free will to obtain the game before reading Neal's review, which is, as I believe, in the making.

I'm gonna play the game and enjoy it, if not - put it on a shelf and wait for mods. I'm not gonna bitch, enough bitching has already been done. Time for some constructive criticism and good ideas on how to improve OUR latest subsim.

my 3 cents.
Mac

I'm an avid Sub-gamer but I has you to be right and I am very disappointed
This is only the money for Ubisoft and the quality has seen the devil.
I can only hope to put the guys from the Romanian and get same stuff with
Patsch some.
I have created the impression that all other Ubisoft games better than this
And I do not know why?

The Oleg Maddox
For Wings of Prey has invested twice as much time,
And the guys are too smart for that use the mods for the extension.

Silent Hunter 5 has made a step forward, but the step is to small.

First game out of the series im not loading up everynight on release. Its not a bad game it looks fantastic to previous SH's and so it should but what #1 said its too consoley for me also. Will wait for a supermod to come out. Back to battlefield for me. Each to their own though if SH5 rocks your sub then enjoy!

Excellent point. I'm getting tired of reading the same hissy fits over and over. But, some of the exaggeration and hyperbole is kind of funny in a "roll your eyes" kind of way.

I agree 110%. Silent Hunter 3 is still the one, and only Silent Hunter.

*sigh* The more I play SH5, the more I have to agree with the original poster. SH5 should have never been released in this condition. Never.
