Funny, I'm reading same post thinking same thing. What exactly are you changing in UPC files? BTW the emblems.UPC is in the folder that I think was for SH4. Go up a couple folders and read through UPCdataGE, I see more stuff pertaining to SH5 in there, but no empty emblems.upc

However pull up upgradepacks.upc and scroll to the bottom, that stuff looks important for the emblems.

Remember though Im just guessing. I have no idea what im doing, I was hoping someone else would.

Adding a new emblem to the list in the menu is really easy but you need to edit two upc file manually.

You need to add a new section at the bottom of two files: \Data\UPCDataGE\UPCUnitsData\Equipment.upc and \Data\UPCDataGE\UPCUnitsData\UpgradePacks.upc.

Go the the bottom of these two files and you'll see the sections for the existing default emblems. A section starts by a section name in brackets for example[Equipment 45] and ends with the blank line before the next section begins. So what you need to do is copy/paste one of the existing entries and modify it a bit:

Lets say your last section for the emblems in Equipment.upc is:

Code:
[Equipment 72]
ID=EqpEmblem29
NameDisplayable=
FunctionalType= EqFTypeCoating
EquipmentInterval= NULL, NULL
EquipmentSlotType=NULL
ExternalLinkName3D=data\Textures\TNormal\tex\U-70.dds
Hitpoints= 10000
DamageDescription1= NULL,    0,    1,    0,    1,    1,    invulnerable,        0,    0,    NULL,    0,    1,    1
Copy it, then paste one line below the end.

Then modify the stuff in red in the section you just copied to match your need:
Code:
[Equipment 73]-------------->>>+1
ID=EqpEmblem30------------>>>+1
NameDisplayable=
FunctionalType= EqFTypeCoating
EquipmentInterval= NULL, NULL
EquipmentSlotType=NULL
ExternalLinkName3D=data\Textures\TNormal\tex\U-70.dds---->>>name of your emblem file
Hitpoints= 10000
DamageDescription1= NULL,    0,    1,    0,    1,    1,    invulnerable,        0,    0,    NULL,    0,    1,    1
Then do the same thing in \Data\UPCDataGE\UPCUnitsData\UpgradePacks.upc

Take the last section for example this:

Code:
[UpgradePack 70]
ID= UpackEmblem29
NameDisplayable=U-70
Info=U-70 was a Type VIIC U-boat, commissioned on 23rd Nov 1940.
Notes=U-70 was assigned to the 7th Flotilla and was lost on her first was patrol. She was sunk 7th March 1941 south-east of Iceland, in position 60.15N, 14.00W, by British corvettes HMS Camellia and HMS Arbutus. About half of the crew survived. On this ill-fated patrol, U-70 sank 1 ship for 820 GRT.
FunctionalType= UpFTypeEmblem
UpgradePackSlotType= UboatEmblems
Type=NULL
UnitUpgradePackIntervalOptionCurrent= NULL, NULL, 0
UnitUpgradePackIntervalOptions1=1939-09-01, NULL, 0
IDLinkUpgradePackElements= EqpEmblem29
TrackingID=901
Copy it, then paste one line below the end. Then modify the stuff in red in the section you just copied to match your need:

Code:
[UpgradePack 71]----------->>>+1
ID= UpackEmblem30--------->>>+1
NameDisplayable=U-70------>>>Name that will appear in the menu
Info=U-70 was a Type VIIC U-boat, commissioned on 23rd Nov 1940.----->You can type any information you like here, it'll be in the menu.
Notes=U-70 was assigned to the 7th Flotilla and was lost on her first was patrol. IDLinkUpgradePackElements= EqpEmblem30------->>>>+1

Don't forget to copy your texture file in the folder with the name you specified in Equipment.UPC.

On another matter, I'm starting to re-think this mod. I originally wanted to include every emblem I could find for all the type VII boats that had one historically. The VIIA's and VIIB's were easy and are done already but it turns out there was a lot more VIIC's made than I realized .

I'm thinking of only doing the more successful U-boats now and those with the coolest/most famous/nicest looking emblems, and maybe the Flotilla emblems. I haven't decided yet, we'll see.

Hi,

here the changes for one emblem:

add 2 lines at Position Line 799 in
Code:
SH5\data\UPCDataGE\UPCLocalization\upclocalization.tsr:

EqEmblemYourUniqeName=Name of the emblem
UpackEqEmblemYourUniqe-Info=short description with Info
These Lines are for the upgrade in subpen.

Ok, for using your own emblem, you have to add your emblem to the equipment-file

Code:
SH5\data\UPCDataGE\UPCUnitsData\Equipment.upc:

[Equipment 61]
ID=EqYourUniqeName
NameDisplayable= name
FunctionalType= EqFTypeCoating
EquipmentInterval= NULL, NULL
EquipmentSlotType=NULL
ExternalLinkName3D= data\Textures\TNormal\tex\filename.dds
Hitpoints= 10000
DamageDescription1= NULL,    0,    1,    0,    1,    1,    invulnerable,        0,    0,    NULL,    0,    1,    1
ok, make a link to this entry in the following file:

Code:
SH5\data\UPCDataGE\UPCUnitsData\UpgradePacks.upc:

[UpgradePack 59]
ID= UpacYourUniqeName
NameDisplayable=EqEmblemYourUniqeName from upclocalization.tsr
Info=UpackEqEmblemYourUniqe-Info from upclocalization.tsr
Notes= your Notes here
FunctionalType= UpFTypeEmblem
UpgradePackSlotType= UboatEmblems
Type=NULL
UnitUpgradePackIntervalOptionCurrent= NULL, NULL, 0
UnitUpgradePackIntervalOptions1=NULL, NULL, 100
IDLinkUpgradePackElements= EqYourUniqeName from Equipment.upc: <-- this is the link!
TrackingID=901
thats all

Paco

Thanks for the screens, I think that means any text present will be mirrored again. Oh well.

You beat me to the "how to" post, I figured it out over the weekend. Also "\data\menu\Skins\German\Gui\Crew" is where the crew photos are. Ive already changed my captain.

Im also working on renazified medals. Just a few minor changes

Use what you wish on your game delete what you dont want. Keep in mind I have only had the chance to test Iron Class 2nd class out ingame. Im a crappy Kaptain, I dont even have the Uboat War badge... Shouldn't I get that after like 2, 2 mnth patrols? I'm on like #6 in 1940.

I saw a screenshot in the screenshot thread revealing emblems on the side of the conning tower. I,m not sure if this was modded though.

I did the conversion, I'm sure you can figure out how to add them. Tell us how you did.
