They are probably just recon and radioing you in.
That would be my guess too...and if so, then it's something the devs got right.

Hurricanes undertaking ASW was one thing that really annoyed me with SH3.

A Hurricat, on the other hand, would be welcome....from Q2 1941 at least.

Yes I think before anybody starts getting over-zealous on this it'd be nice to confirm or deny whether later in the stock campaign the air role changes.

At the moment, while the aircraft appear to do little, when I started remaining surfaced as they buzzed me I thought I saw an increase in the number of single Warships I started to run into (this was patrolling the east coast of GB).

Now, that could have just been coincidence, but either way I started diving after being buzzed and remaining submerged and changing direction for a few hours and the aircraft didn't come back so much and the Warships diminished.

As I said, we'd need more data to be sure but it could just be that in this instance we actually have a feature working nicely.... Difficult to believe I know.
