No offense, but I think a Cold War version would get mighty boring. Unless it's a hypothetical WWIII scenario, you wouldn't get to shoot at anything... you'd just go listen to stuff and follow other subs. Of course, you'd have a bigger boat to walk around. You probably wouldn't get to go aft though, since the Navy would have a hissy fit if someone modeled one of our "confidential" nuclear engine rooms, even though there's really nothing of interest there, either.

Modern day subs would be boring too (I know... I was there.)

Even if you did had a hypothetical WWIII scenario, you can't use the scope... that damn thing gets picked up on radar the second it breaks the surface... so you'd be doing sonar-only intercepts the whole time.

If it's set in the future... uggh... no thank you. I can't stand any game that's not based on reality.

Main purpose of a submarine in...

WWII - Sink ships, a lot of ships

Cold war - launch missiles

So not very surprising if the ''sinking ships'' game gets more votes.

Although I must admit I would love to give a try to the German type 212.

Yeah thats why all modern subs have basically ditched torpedoes and carry only missiles eh ?
Submarines have many purposes, one of them is to sink high value surface assets. Another is to hunt down other submarines (something that wasn't even possibile in WW2 were you were limited by technology to only hunt surface vessels). And just to set the record straight, the only real submarine of WW2 was the Type XXI. All the other were just surface vessels that could submerge at the last minute to attack convoys. They were useless for any other kind of mission.

Sorry, I didn't know the Cold war was still ongoing in our ''modern'' days. thanks! I've learn something new today!

So in the Cold war the main purpose of a submarine was to sink high value surface assets and not to target major cities!

Again, I've learn another thing today, great! Thanks!

We still miss a surface vs subsurface sim.

If not implemented in future patches of SH V, SHVI should include human controlled escorts so we can finally have decent naval multiplayer battles with escorts hunt subs while sub hunt merchies and escorts, instead the boring cooperative ones where some players just share the same virtual ocean.

This is what we do miss and this is what would make Naval sim world alive with flotillas, destroyer squadrons, tactics, tournaments, wars..........

my two cents.

Ahh the time frame WWII of course, for a modern sim we would need a much different interfaces than we have in SH series and also would require players to "study" a bit more as was required in Dangerous Waters and that was a sales trouble since actual publishers pretend all their products sell as much as AVATAR or Harry Potter.

Hear hear, many players still miss SH II vs Destroyer Command.
Things are interesting only so much when you go ALWAYS against AI dumb convoys.
Once you learn the pattern/s, there is no more challenge.
Players versus players is a whole different ballgame though.
And one that could improve dramatically the SH series.
Alas Ubisoft has no intention of resucitating a multiplayer multistation cooperative/competitive environment.

What about some hypothetical scenario from 1935 - 1950? .
Starts with normal historical subs and continues to some crazy-experimental weapons . Something like Crimson Skies game and it will be interesting if your actions would deeply impact the war .
Imagine war would be between Allies,Axis and Commitern and everyone wants to control seas , after battles on land have stopped ...
BTW sorry for my bad english

I would love a cold war game.
But it has to be a "What if" scenarion like if missile exchanges were going to start and you ave to find and sink the Soviot Sub.
