Default Should Ubisoft bring SH-VI to the future?

With Silent Hunter V returning to the Atlantic after a brief detour to the Pacific, I have been wondering what's left for the romanian team to do world war wise in their brilliant series of submarine simulators? Is the next step a leap towards present day?, or perhaps the future? -Would you like to command the "USS Texas", the prototype Swedish submarine or perhaps the new malaysian Scorpene-class?, or would you rather continue commanding the WWII subs? Do you think Ubisoft can keep it's Silent Hunter franchise within the grasp of the second world war, or do you see them evolveving towards a modern-day-sub-sim?

-It seems to me SH5 will be the ultimate WWII sub-experience to-date. But if you could choose the time-setting of the next Silent Hunter, -what would you choose?, and what steps would you like the developers to take?
I would love to hear what's on your mind concerning the Silent Hunter/WWII topic, -I've got mixed emotions! I love SH3 and 4, but I'd love to take an Virginia-class submarine to sea and engage the enemy with some long-range-missiles!

Yours truly, able seaman, James MkIII

I think it'd be interesting if the team tried their hand at a modern Subsim. They could focus on just one Sub type as they've done with SH5 and place it in a theoretical scenario, like The Hunt or Red October.

I vote WW2. There's still so much to explore, they've done the US and German boats there's still the UK or maybe the Russians to do next

I'd like a Cold War Scenario most. Just sneaking after enemy subs or ships, gathering intelligence, trying to get away undected.......would be a very thrilling scenario at least for me. Wouldn't mind if the Cold War gets hot of course.

Edit : As there is no "Cold War" Option I voted for "Present Day".

Nice edit. I catch your drift. The Cold War scenario would be smashing! Loads of sneaky missions (as I prefer!) is hidden here

If they made it anything but WW2, I wouldn't play it.

I'd like to see WWI. Boarding schooners, deck gun battles with Q-ships. Scuttling ships with explosives.
Stuff from with Lowell Thomas' Riders of the Deep!

Silent Hunter is the only modern(good graphics) subsim.
They should make something like a new version of Dangerous Waters.
Where else is there to go in WWII
So I vote present day.

That is a good point.
Unless something extreme happens we don't even need our Silent Service.

SH6 will be about Cold War subs. And since the SH6 release date is 2025, Cold War subs will be old history.

WW 1 for me

The old subs were a challenge just to keep afloat sometimes.

Ditto. Where's the fun if shooting something causes nuclear war?

WWII for me. Looks like that's the majority opinion as well.

I vote WW2 but would like to add the tooth fairy wish that they do a full PTO simulation of the entire war with all salient US Fleet boats available to command as they historically appeared in the war. Would be nice if they took another crack at a hardcore simulation, too. Maybe SHV will reveal this is what most people who play sub sims want. It's not all about the eye candy.

Ehhh...you never know.
look at COD, started in WWII, and pretty much rode out the entire "Every shooter must be WWII or halo period"
To most peoples surprise it went modern and pretty much came out as a stronger game because of their willingness to change.

I vote WWII, but it will eventually become stagnate and in need of a change eventually.

I think the next release should be still in WWII. However I'd like to see a arcade/less realistic version with a really nice storyline while still keeping the game dynamic. Ubisoft has already done this with Il-2 and Blazing Angels.

What spawned this idea was seeing the interaction between the captain and crew in SH5. Also a memory from long ago in Aces of the Deep... THE NIGHTCLUB!

Imagine returning from a patrol and speaking with others inside the harbor. Going to the nightclub and having other captains give you hints about things you may encounter on your next patrol. Some unhistorical upgrades for the boat would be cool too

I know it sounds a little rpg'esque for the hardcore simmer out there but personally I love RPG's and I'd like to see the two come together.

WWII.

They haven't even begun to simulate that conflict yet.

They do a good job giving us a veneer. They need to really concentrate on the myriad details and bring the full expanse of the sea war home.
