absolutely love the sound of the (inferior uboat) diesels, and proper german dive alarm sound.

Maybe they aren't the full resolution they will come with in the game, or maybe it has to do with the resolution the video is being captured at, but on the latest video in particular on the surface I thought the sky and waves and boat etc. looked dull and lifeless. Similarly much of inside the boat doesn't look as good as the (admittedly too heavy for my PC to run without some hitching) textures in e.g. the open conning tower / open hatch mods with the FlakMonkey engine room, etc.
And the Sims "..." bubble over the 1WO's head - sure hope I can turn that off along with the glowing highlights. On the positive side, the pumps and pipes and whatnot to the left of the hatch when walking to the rear of the ship looked very good. Loved the sounds of the engines and the animation there. I actually like the idea of my crew being able to do things better (e.g. get a little more speed out of the engines, repair things faster, reload torps faster) instead of just gaining stamina or whatever happens in SH3 when they gain experience. I liked the guys mentioning we found an enemy task force. Nobody ever says "we found a convoy" in SH3 that I can recall, there are just lots of reports of ships sighted or contacts detected on hydrophones. Boy if there was an easy-to-use scripting language for the crew, etc., imagine the kind of missions we could create with the right mission editor. Wonder if the game will come with one. It would be like the kind of adventures one can create with Neverwinter Nights (but hopefully without the +1 diesel fuel or the captain's Luger of intimidation). |

Great Vid so far.
But what i find annoying: -Neal orders BattleStations - and nothing happens at all! They all continue their normal dutys?!? Not even a Order Confirmation? I don't get it. -The dieselengine sound is again awkward, but i already knew that this is one of the first things to change. (Type XXIII Diesel for comparison: THIS is the Sound (comin at 1:00) ) -When the Boat dives to periscopedepth, i couldn't believe my eyes... the same frickin animation error since SH3 is implemented again in SH5: The Boat is tilting like 20° left and stays like this! Why.. i ask WHY is it so hard to code it, that the boat leans FORWARD when diving and BACKWARD when Rising? I really DO hope, that this is not the case in the final version... We will see.... Best Regards - Hunkey |

Euhm there is something i really miss in the videos as well as the Screen Shots i have just been looking.... TIME
I haven’t seen any clock or time indication!!! Can you imagine, running at PD (periscope depth) or lower during the day, while time is times 1024 and you are looking at the map, and have to switch to periscope every time to check if it is getting darker? I know there is a little round thing upper right where you can see the context, but i clock would be nice. Did I miss it? |

And also featured in SH5, like it was in SH3: Peilung (Bearing) is called Kurs (Course). Listen at 0:34 in the latest video.
Next is no animation of stopping the dieselengines. They simply quit their running animation. No animation of the crew interacting with the boat, when they should (for example shutting down the diesel engines). |

Yeah yeah yeah... I just skip over all nitpicker messages, it's much enjoyable and quicker that way.
![]() Thanks for the latest video Neal. I like how the crew lives and acts in the sub, we didn't have anything close to this much animation in SH3, so I'm happy. I knew the devs had some good humor, that sneaky bosun ![]() The diesel animations, sounds, and the overall "living submarine/crew" is exciting. I don't care if they have little glitches or cheesy remarks, it's all good ![]()

Funny, i realized that the crew description on the SH website fits perfectly:
remember when the guy takes something to eat while the cook turns away? Chief Engineer: Josef Erdmann [...] He has a weak spot for sweats and candy. [...] ![]() |

Pretty nice video, thanks Neal!
However, two things bug me: 1. The Sound guy reports ship contacts while the submarine is still on the surface and doing 6-7 knots( "Halbe fahrt")... Is this possible? I don't thinks so. 2. The watch officer (or somebody from the crew) reports new ship contacts whispering. Why does he whisper while the submarine is on the surface and the diesel engines are still working? I can see no point in it. Sorry for the "negative vibes". ![]() |
