Odd stuttering for me has sometimes happened and I didn't know why until Microsoft Update reported to me that an update was ready for me to install -- and a particularly large one at that. It won't ask you if you want to download it, it'll just go ahead and do it.
Also, I end up with all kinds of virus scanning and spyware scanning in the evenings, often when I'd normally be playing. There are also some viruses out there, one virus/worm is making the rounds right now in fact and hones in particularly on Windows 2000. Get the latest updates from Microsoft to make sure you don't get hit. Our company lost its internet connection for a while trying to stem the tide of the latest one. Not sure if it was targeted or just affected. If you don't scan for viruses and spyware..why the heck not? I have to regularly clean out my system and I have what I believe are very healthy practices (firewall and many scanners). Without those I'd get bogged down pretty quick without even doing anything. Good luck. |
