great photo of U-862's 'wingarten' area and weapon arrangement. the ammunition feeder of the M42 is just visible at the bottom. are those the 2cm AA guns shown? or the larger calibre?

If you mean the blue 'bars' on the diesels, yes they were painted to protect against rust and to stand out a little. Normally these would be bare metal, which offcourse rusts if you dont use it (running the engines) or oil it nearly everyday.

The blue items are the valve (or lifter) "rods" (same as in car engines) - the valve "rocker" is the horizontal lever on top. From this picture can be deduced that these diesels are "top-valved", as opposed to side-valved (flatheaded). While this museum engine is painted in stark blue I am not sure they were so in real life.

Default U534 - to be found at the U534 Museum in Liverpool

hope these are bigger Kaleuns. the boat was cut into 4/5 pieces. the insides are rusted away. you can not go inside. seems a shame to cut up such a beautiful boat.... but there you go.

hope these links work, they tell a bit more info about the ol' boat...

Found these uploaded by a contact of mine on flickr recently:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/siimvah...7621914697415/

While there's no Uboat pictures there are alot of shots from the war period ranging from life back home (that the uboat men were missing so much) and pictures from the eastern front, greece etc.

I thought you lot might be interested.
