It's SH4... or at least not much better than what the modders did with SH4 in the 2 years or so since it was released.

And as far as gameplay goes? If the videos I've seen on Youtube (see the penetration into Pearl Harbor (1944 or 1945, in a Type VII) and the torpedoing of ships end-on in narrow docking "slips" from a range of maybe 50 yds, for example) are intended to highlight the best of what will be offered?... well I said it already elsewhere: We - the sub simULATION fans that hang out in forums like this - are NOT the target audience for this game.

I just looked the vids up on youtube. Since that doesn't look like anything UBI released recently I would guess that those are videos generated with SH4 and a Type VII mod. The interface looks very SH4 and the graphics are on a similar level. When it comes to eye candy you cannot realy say that SH5 wont offer enough. Just ... well ... the rest suffered a bit ...

What youtube clip are you talking about? I cant seem to find anything ! Anyway if there even was a pearl harbour penetration video on sh-5 i think it would have been posted here long ago.

AVG's right, yep.
You can see through any U-Boot's hull in SH5 as their pressure hull is not modeled in stock SH5.
And this video showing the VIIB doesn't feature the holes in its outer hull.

Honestly, I saw some features that interested me very much. Moving from one compartment to another is pretty neat. And by the way, the down the throat shot looked awesome to me. I sure would like to see more! I wonder will we be able to hear the ASDIC go across our hull during evasions or will we just hear pings? Will escorts be using hedgehogs and homing torpedoes? I assume the game's AI would be quite a bit more aggressive to reflect history.
Will there be Condor recon planes directing me onto targets? Also will the Type VII make it to the Gulf of Mexico? I don't get the crew management yet either. Tell us more!
I am more interested in the Pacific theater personally but I did read Iron Coffins in my teens and was impressed by the dedication and courage those sailors exhibited in the face of enormous odds. By the way Das Boot The Original Uncut Version is available ON Demand this month.
