Wasn't here for 3's release, but we didn't have much time to bitch before SH4 came out...
If I recall the process was something like 6 months of: "No way will they make a 4th.. no money in it.."  "Hey I hear they are gonna make a 4th."   "Confirmed they are making a 4th!"   (Insert various sausage vs ice cream fights here) "OMG it's gone Gold already!?!"  "I just played it...."
