the real question is rather "Amongst people SAYING they won't buy sh5, how many WILL really stick to their assertion even when they will come accross the game box a few days after release?"

OH I will. There's a ton of games i might like, but haven't bought. Maybe ive gotten more disciplined, but more times i can count, ive picked up a gamebox of a title i wanted, and put it back on the shelf and walked out of the store.
I think the last game i bought (aside from L4D2), was about 4 months ago. Mass Effect 1, In the bargan bin for 20 bucks.

You know, I had been playing Civ III for a long time, and I still play it. But I hated to see them make an add on with some extra civ's later, so I figured, when Civ IV appeared, they would do the same. So I waited, then they truely made not only one add on but two. And I think they made it back when SH3 appeared for the original and the latest add on in 2007. I just bought my bargain compilation pack last autumn....
So oh, yes, I think I can wait, when a producer makes some "unhealthy" decisions... If SH5 doesn't get an add on with the missing features within one year, then it will only confirm my decision not to buy full price.

you mean L4D 1.5 maybe?

Lots of deceivings for me these days though... Was eagerly waiting for mass effect 2, sadly, I just discovered they removed about 70% of the RPG things just basically wiping this whole side of the gameplay instead of improving it!!
Now lots of bad news from SH5...
Wings of prey having a decent enough simulation mode and a marvel of a 3d engine but only instant action!!! no take off!!!! Talk about killing the immersion...
and etc etc.
*sigh*

Sad thing is, i think i like L4D1 better for the atmosphere. L4D2 has more functionality, but it's just not grabbing me like L4D1 did.

Well, I am retracting my earlier offer to make an SH5Cmdr...it will be a bit hard to make such a thing when I don't have the game! Besides, it may be highly likely that half the stuff that SH3Cmdr does can't be done with SH5 anyway because of the DRM protection (ie save game changes - a very large part of SH3Cmdr).

Further, in addition to SH3Cmdr, I'm sure that not many people would know that I built quite a toolkit for modifying and validating the integrity of SH3 files; a toolkit used heavily during the development of GWX, and one I'm sure that BBW will agree as helping reduce random campaign/roster related CTDs substantially. This was "behind the scenes" stuff that I put together that I won't be putting together for SH5. And I know other modders that made "behind the scenes" software that was even more integral to modding work. I haven't seen them here yet.

Anyway, I'm sure it's no big loss, as someone else will just fill the hole I've left, but, then again, we thought that would be the case with SH4 too...

Hi,

at the moment, I’m not interested in SH5 and therefore not interested in modding SH5!

Why that? SH4 was – I a wide range – a “quick and dirty” copy of SH3 items and objects. Who ever tried to mod a SH4 ship knows that. After all the “pictures” I’ve seen of SH5, I presume, SH5 will be a “quick and dirty” copy of parts of SH4 – with all well known problems.

My objective is to have a game that comes close to a real U-Boat-Simulation. That means to have a “campaign”, a “career” from the beginning of WWII (or earlier) until the end (or later) – not to play a fixed amount of “single missions”. The latter leads back to SH2.

I’ll stay at SH3. SH3 has a wonderful basis and very, very good “super-mods”. And in my opinion, SH3 has not come to an “end”. There is still scope for ideas and improvements.

SH5 with this kind of DRM – is just another reason not to buy SH5.

Greetings

Sometimes i think everything that happened in Sh3 (supermods, tools, SH3 commander, everything et all, ) was just unique. And to some extent, Sh4 as well. ( I highly doubt you'll see something like S3D again). Both games had Just the right mixture of personalities, talents, experience, politics, teeth gnashing, etc, that created some catalyst that probably won't ever be duplicated again.

I'm out. SH3 has got loads of life left in it and I haven't even touched SH4 yet.

I'm interested in the shipbuilders - VonDos, IABL, mikhayl, nautilus42, yamatoforever and the rest of the guys who create all the new ships we sink. Will they move over to SH5 or keep going on SH3 and 4?

And even better you would have saved yourself all those moments of bugginess and frustration until everything is fixed and hopefully bugfree and finished product.

The way I see it, all those who plan on buying it the day it comes out will become the beta testers. In six months time after they have adequately beta tested it, it might be ready for me to buy. And at budget price by then, how can I lose?
