Years back there was talk of developing a PC peripheral that would spray a "scent" that would add to immersion. I can only imagine what that would smell like for a sub sim. Phew!

In all seriousness, I suspect that beard growth may have made it in. During one of the trailers you notice the narrator/commander stroking his facial hair as he looks in the mirror. The obvious implication is that he's feeling a bit tired & scruffy from being out on patrol for so long. Far from proof, but perhaps a hint...
