Default [REL]Sofu Gan (Lot's wife)

Edit: Aug 16, 2015.
Version 2. This version adds a tiny X at the location of the model to make it easier to find on the in-game Chart/map.
----------------------------------------------------------
The discussion thread is here with screenshots:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=160204

I uploaded it in JSGME format here to Subsim
Download link:

The Readme:

Readme_Sofu_Gan.txt:

Quote:
In JSGME format for stock SH4 1.5. Back up your original files.

Version 2. This version adds a tiny X at the location of the model to make it easier to find on the in-game Chart/map.

What it does:
This mod will install Sofu Gan (Lot's wife) which was a well known landmark used during WWII by aircraft and submarines. I have read patrol reports of submarines calibrating their radar by using Sufu Gan prior to entering Empire waters.

It is JSGME friendly... however you will need to edit your Campaign_LOC.mis file yourself using a text editor like Notepad ( NOT Word ) if you are running a mod that alters this file..

Data\Campaigns\Campaign\ Campaign_LOC.mis

If a mod is using this file, be sure to back it up, then make a copy of that Campaign_LOC.mis file your SH4 install is using, edit this copy as shown below, and install your edited copy to this mod in the
\Data\Campaigns\Campaign
folder replacing my stock version of Campaign_LOC.mis file before enabling this mod.

I have included a Campaign_LOC.mis file for stock SH4 (1.5). Of course, replace mine with your edited version if you needed to make the edit:

Lurker gave me permission to base the code below on RSRD’s code because RSRD has Sofu Gan in its historically correct location and the SH4 sea floor is approx the right depth.

Example:
Here is an edit based on RSRD:

----------------------------------------------
[MapLocation nnnn] <----- where n is a number*
Type=0
Priority=0
Title=Sofu Gan
Heading=123.000000
OnLand=false
ShowOnMap=true
FirstRenderStep=false
FileName2D=sofu_cross.dds
FileName3D=SofuGan.dat
LocationName=Sofu Gan
MinObjTerrainHeight=0
MaxObjSlope=1.000000
GameEntryDate=19380101
GameEntryTime=0
GameExitDate=19451231
GameExitTime=0
Font=FPCond18.dds
FontColor=255
UseDetColor=true
ZoomStart=50
ZoomEnd=1
ScaleOnZoom=true
Scale1024=14.377808
Long=16842640.000000
Lat=3576380.000000
Height=0.000000
----------------------------------------------

* the four numbers (n):
Lets say your highest number at the bottom of the Campaign_LOC.mis file is:
[MapLocation 1123]

You would edit the block of code above (in this Readme) to read:
[MapLocation 1124]

and paste the above block of code with its numbers at the botom of your Campaign_LOC.mis file.

(above this part):
[EditorParams]
InitLongOff=-11607000.000000
InitLatOff=5980500.000000
ZoomIndex=0
Prefix=

Do a search in your Campaign_LOC.mis file for: Sofu.

Maybe your Campaign_LOC.mis file already has Sofu Gan in this file. In that case you only need to paste the block of code into the file to show this model by replacing that block of code (if it exists in the middle of the file), with the [MapLocation nnnn] lines of data above.

----------------------------------------------
Thanks to S3D, Nisgeis & DarkFish; without their help I couldn't have imported this model into SH4. Thanks to Lurker (lurker_hlb3) for giving me permission to use RSRD’s code as an example in this Readme.

I am in no way intending to suggest that anyone mentioned endorses this project.

This is freeware, not for commercial use, and I am not responsible for anything that happens to your computer. Back up your files!

Happy Hunting!

Art (aanker)

I'm really happy to finally see it while on patrol. Hopefully others will enjoy seeing Lot's wife / Sofu Gan as they enter Empire waters....

Happy Hunting!

I just finished reading "Submarine Diary" by Corwin G. Mendenhall and Sofu Gan is mentioned numerous times in the book. It's great to finally see her in game. Thanks for making this happen.

Thanks, Check out this thread and look at the other screen shots first:

- I don't think it's too light. (The morning sun is reflecting off bird droppings) ...lol

I used this public domain picture for the texture.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...oufuiwa_07.jpg

You could darken up the texture easy enough with a graphics program like Gimp or Photoshop if you want.

Keep in mind that it is JSGME for stock.
- OK, PM me with your address and I'll send you mine - then send me the file in a zip or rar, 7zip etc and I'll edit it for you.

just my observation based on the size of the waves in that real life image, i think you need to double the height and width of it but the shape and colors look spot on.

maybe 2 sub lengths high and 1 sub length wide

excellent work

Webster, Webster - Thanks - (I think) ......lol

From the discussion topic,
(http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...php?t=160204):

Sources I have read say that Sofu Gan has a summit height of roughly 325' or approx 100 meters above sea level....

To rough it in I Imported a SH4 Gato class model which is approx 310' long to use to compare when I built the mesh.

This model is close enough for me. As I said, It is intended to be a representation of Sofu Gan, not an exact duplicate my crew can climb and measure.

If you want to build a model that is 600' high and 600' +/- wide feel free but it would be twice as tall and wide as it should be.

I am satisfied with it as it is. It isn't perfect but at least it is close to the correct size and close to the correct location.

Happy Hunting!

I think Webster's right, using a pencil to get the length of the sub and then comparing it to the height of the rock, it's about 60% of the height of the rock.

They had a lot of rain that day and the sea level rose.
