You can look for my thread "Convoy SS", shows where many are and I've only listed a few of those I've been in. I can spend each patrol fighting large battles or attacking one large convoy after the other. It helps to know history, where invasion forces landed, shipping lanes, ect. All the large battles are scripted and it's just knowing where to be at the right time.
