About dynamic shadows, well, since it's a feature that should be integrated in a AAA 2010 sim game, yeah it kind of matters.

Considering all the work they are doing on the graphic side of the game it is pretty weird that thoses shadows don't appear in the screens, but don't forget that there's still some time before Gold version (a fat month) so I'm confident that it will be featured.

I think that the late screens don't feature all graphical options yet.
Myself I work in the video game industry and in our current project, the graphical aspect will be finished almost at the last moment, just because cosmetics don't have to be finished while developing a game.

About the fact that the game concentrates on the VII class, big deal as long as it's better done than the previous games.
I preffer one sub and one campaign better done and more immersive than something less polished and with more content.

The main purpose of a simulation is to simulate, if they can better simulate a sub game by concentrating on one sub and a dynamic campaign, why not? There's plenty of time afterwards for addons.

missing half the war... missing more than half the uboots... that's incredible...
They never wonder why a 5years old game ( i mean sh3) is still played by so many people?? Oh and it's not sh3 but sh3 WITH GWX or NYGM or WAC. Was it so complicated to start from this base??
Wait and see but the more they show the less i feel excited about it...

dynamic shadows are present in most of the screen shots, its just some of the shadows are difused. light cloud covering the sun would cause that. you get sharp shadows in bright sunlight - soft shadows when thin cloud is present. have a look at the screenshots again

I'd be more concerned about the sub on rails issue of SH4, rather than any kind of shadows. To each his own, I guess.
While I have no problem playing a game without shadows, I'd be most troubled to look at a naval simulation that misses by far precisely the dynamics of ships on water. I still wait to see a screenshot with stormy sea.

hmmm... they do seem to be missing in the clip. very strange considering in all but one of the screen shots they are present. i'm sure when its released all will be present and correct.

I'd add that there's also shadow map missing on the main land we see at the beginning of the video, everything looks so flat on land (hills have no shadows, barrack either...). And shadow maps are very easy to implement.
