Default New Fleet Recognition Manual

I'm starting a project for an out-of-game Fleet Recognition Manual.

First off... if this has already been done, somebody please tell me so I don't spend time re-doing something that's already out there.

The purpose of this manual is for a quick reference when creating and editing missions.

I started with the Japanese ships, but intend to eventually include all ships.
I used the in-game museum to get a screenshot of each one, then transferred the data and screenshot to an Access Database (that way it will be easy to change/update later.)

Then I arranged the data and exported it to a .pdf. Right now, it's very basic... just the pictures and the data (name, class, speed, draft, mast height, and tonnage.) I'll add other things as I think of them or if people suggest them.

Once I have everything set, it should be relatively easy to do one for SH5 when it comes out too.

You can download the file here (filefront, 1.5 MB)

Have a look and tell me what you think. I'm not offended by suggestions or corrections, so please have at it.

By the way, these shots were made with SH4 v1.5 with TMO 1.9

That is very nice thanks for posting it.

There may be a mistake in the CVE class.
The Shoho CVE is listed with a mast height of 144.5 ft. it has no mast.
The Taiyo CVE is listed as 52.5 ft and it has a mast.
Might have the two backwards.

Other than that looks pretty cool and helpful.

The thing that bugs me about the in game manual is there's no ship lengths: in some circumstances timing the bow to stern through the periscope is excellent for calculating target speed - but only if you know the ship length or have a good guess.

So if you could include ship lengths in your pdf it could live on the descktop for when in game and we just alt-tab to it when necessary.

Just a thought.

Interesting... I agree completely... makes total sense. I double-checked on the game and I think the in-game recognition manual has wrong too. I'll swap those two numbers. Thanks!

I agree this would be very helpful. Do you know a reliable source I can get the length data from?

I just found the .cfg files that contain all the information, including length.

Time to get busy...

The ONI Manuals are available online in CD. I really like the idea of having poor information on the ships and have that built in error. The Fleet Boats always lacked accurate information on their targets and errors were always happening with ship length, mast heights and tonnage.

Something for everybody.

Happy Hunting!
