Might be the compass there. The engine dial I can see on the lower left; looks like a slider with buttons. That might be a space saver on the screen but to me it doesn't feel right. I can deal with that layout but I still prefer the dials.

Both SH3 and SH4 lacked a bit of difficulty in the campaigns. Sensors weren't bad though and the game could prove very difficult at times. Even if the SH3 vanilla campaign will be flawless, there's bound to be mods to make it even more realistic. Sensors should be as simple to mod as they are now.

The problem is that depending on enemy sensors, your tactics can change dramatically. It's easy to make it completely unforgiving but I'd rather be able to use the real tactics used in the war. I'm hoping for a layered approach to sensors. In SH3 and SH4 the enemy is stuck in a loop waiting for you to pass certain thresholds. I'd like them to use real sensors this time and even spook themselves through false readings. It would be fun to see the escorts suddenly start attacking empty water because they've passed above a wreck or move away from the convoy because of a tired watchman that thinks he spotted a periscope in rough waters.
I hope you're right karamazovnew. I'm just getting flustrated of fact what developers do in present times with sim/military games making them unrealistic fun games for casual/console players. I really wish to see GWX/TMO team as SH5 devs

cheers

the HUD is really... in lack of a better word, horrendous. Looks way too modern, and game-ish, i was expecting something diferent, more like shIII or IV.

@Asakura: thank you for the translation. "When we are all set, the word is "Fire!", and soon the first torpedo is in the water." The text reminded me of propaganda movies

@Apos and Nickolas: You might want to take a look at "Danger from the deep". The interface never ceases to amaze me:http://dangerdeep.sourceforge.net/documentation/

More like Windows 7.
I thought the same at first, but then I reviewed the default interfaces in SH3 and SH4. Now I like it .

Well, streamlined interfaces are the trend these days. As long as they're functional, I'm ok with it.

And now you don't know any more than you did yesterday. It may be exactly as you fear, or it may be exactly as some speculated, i.e. we're seein the very easiest levels. Like some others, you're complaining over one little video that really doesn't tell us anything.

Looks great! When exactly is this game coming out? I live in Germany and the narrator said beginning 2010 the game will become available. Any specific date when this game will be launched? I want to make sure I get a copy of it before it's sold out!

The good news is that the Type VII(A) is available, which hopefuly means the Type IX(A) will be available at war's start.

The bad news is that Ubi still has not learned that ALL nations use Nautical Miles at sea, NOT Kilometers.

On those two counts, I would say the good outweighs the bad.

the interface should look like something out of WWII.
hopefully it comes with different skins that would
be awesome.

well, i don't like streamlined interfaces... i want switches... i want dirty metal switches and lights and stuff on top of dirty wooden or metal surfaces that i can touch and play with.
i want the hud to be rough, to be like a TDC that belongs inside a boat... a boat that was designed and built for war, not for looking nice.
