Well, upon looking at that video I have to say.
I am unimpressed by the control interface. Where are the gauges? All I saw were digital read outs. Another note also, and this may just be something that needs further development. When the crash dive order was given I heard "Oooga OOga" in place of the cry of Alarm followed by a bell. The 1st person view was impressive to say the least. I could do without the map display on the periscope view. Also, the periscope had much to be desired. It is off to one side, instead of the middle, it is small, and it is surrounded by black (actually that may be a bit more realistic) Hopefully this was just a in development video, cause there were many errors as well, such as on the selection screen there is a starbord/ stern view of a fleet boat. LOL. What did you all think? |

A lot of it is probably placeholders from SH4, I'm sure that stuff will all be replaced before release. On the crew interface screen there was a "Leadership - Personality" title next to the captain with some progress bars beneath it. Wonder how you're supposed to improve your leadership and personality.

The comment doesnot add much to what we already knew. Strange interface by the way. It's SH4-like. Text is:
At the right top you can change viewpoints. The suggest that the inside is like an old U-boot from then. You can talk to crewmembers and they make some small hints to a famous U-boot movie as they enter the engine room. At the exercise-alarm (also in that movie) it is told that left bottom depth can be controlled. In the overviewcard you can steer the boat and set waitpoints which is done in the example with 8 time TC to speed it up. Then they show a mission in which the boot should defend a harbor against a large enemy group. They come to business fast and prepare torpedo tubes. Important is torpedo depth and making sure the torp isn't running under the enemy ship. When everything fits it's fire at will and soon carried out. And as it gives a lot of fun the second own follows direct after. In the beginning of 2010 this can also be achieved by you as then SH is released for PC. My blow-by-blow analysis:
@ 10:23 - One of the choices listed is a Type VIIA u-boat. Wonder if that's just a placeholder or if they're really including the VIIA's @ 10:29 - menu says "rise periscope" instead of "raise" @ 10:37 - I like the new nav map look. Looks very clean. @ 10:42 - Marcus the smutje is back! I am guessing that's his soup meter. I hope that we're not stuck with the the funker and hydrophone operator being named "sound guy" and "radio guy" @ 10:50 - conning tower looks great! Not sure how I feel about the interactive stuff like the periscope highlighting when you mouse over it @ 11:11 - the engines vibrate! Nice touch! @ 11:15 - "OBER ALARM!"? ![]() @ 11:18 - please tell me we can turn off the popup tool tips @ 11:40 - "Smoke on the horizon!" Great touch! @ 11:42 - Please tell me that the gauge in the lower left..the "4321012345" is not my engine control. Hopefully that's a placeholder until we get a real engine telegraph dial. @ 12:01 - That water looks awfully clear. More like Pacific or Caribbean water

I believe what we are looking at here is the XBOX 360 platform version of Silent Hunter V.
Saw some things i didnt care for.... saw a lot I really liked! we will all have to wait and see.

A PC user would be using "mouslook" - if you watch the 3D compartment views, the POV looks a bit like it is jerking from place to place, a bit like you would expect with a FPS Platform game with a user holding a game pad joystick / thumbstick needs to be darkened just a bit, but i am wondering if this is a feature of SHV... variable water clarity and color depending on global position.
