I haven't had crashing problems since I loaded 1.5 and pointed the shortcut to SH4 instead of gu.exe...Always best to do regardless
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/t...756#1891058756

Most problems are not enough virtual ram, out of date drivers, background programs, ect...or mod soup.

I did have a terrible crash tonight. I played for 3 hours and had a huge convoy of ships I was preparing to attack. Just got a refit before Surabaya fell. Phone rings so I pause the game and go outside to talk..cell phone...Come back in my PC was off. No save point and I just fought the large java invasion force of over 50 ships and sank many. I yell at my wife...did you cut my PC off......she yelled back...NO.

Had to be "Bear", our little Yorkie Pom mix.....he looks like a little german shep...He's worse than that Marley dog...he pulled the cord out. Had to be him, cause he's always chewing cords....got the fire knock out of him once....He also chewed the cable cord to the TV in half...my Computer Chair, and been eating my wood desk.

Anybody want a dog.

Update your rig if you have the CTD problems. Since I went from the original release to UBM SH4 has been the paragon of reliability. Much, much more than any of my other games.

It's been a while since mine crashed, I just save a lot just in case. Mine would usually crash right after I hit the bridge icon for some reason. The screen would just go blank and you knew what was coming.

"...when I hit a real bad rain storm. Vis is terrible..."

Aside from switching to the bridge when entering a harbor, that one was the most common crash for me. When it didn't crash I got really jerky framerates from rainy days.

OS: Windows XP Media (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)
Model: Dell DXP051
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2046MB RAM
DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

Video: Radeon X550 256.0 MB
ATI Driver Version: 6.14.0010.6925

Sound: SigmaTel Audio
sthda.sys Driver Version: 5.10.4823.0000 (English)

That X550 is the main problem, my 8500GT quit working and the only replacement I had was the X550 saved from scrap.

What fixed it, go into the graphics options, turn off volumetric fog. Smooth framerates and no crashes on them rainy nights.

Default I was on the verge...

of wining the war. Little is it known that my boat sunk so many ships in Tokyo Bay that the Japanese proposed to surrender on the deck of the Barbarinna in late 1943. Just after the Japanese Prime Minister signed the official surrender document, my system crashed. McArther demanded proof, and I hadn't been able to save the mission. He concluded the "surrender" was a ruse, and that the Japs had sabotage my boat, causing it to "crash." The war goes on. My broken computer, not this one, is in the repair drydock and I am stuck in port reading all of these posts.

When I got my new rig I had the following "anticrash" software installed:

http://www.dachshundsoftware.com/index.html

Now MOST of the time when I get CTD in games (not just SH) it repairs them and I can carry on with the game. I must admit though It's not 100% perfect, but it's better than I used to have.
