Default New Skin - The Black Boat (VII, IX and XXI series subs)

Final Update, Now there is the VII, IX and the XXI series of Boats with this skin.

Hi all, I finished my very first skin and thought I would share it with anyone that wants it...

I made this boat because I liked the look, and at the time I didn't realise that there were infact 3 of these boats actually built (Thanks for that info Duli )

Other Screenshots and download link can be got from HERE

Aghhh yes, BUT you stay under during the day and surface at night, then you shouldn't get into much trouble :rotfl:

That'd be true even for a green boat in pink polka dots! (yuck)!!

How about some history on why this boat was black in real life? I heard only 3 were like that? Was it some special ops?

If you think about it, what is the color of modern submarines?

I wouldn't have a clue on the history of the 3 subs that were black, as I only got told about it yesterday myself and haven't had a chance to look into it..

Subs today?? - Ummmm they are black aren't they

They were black (3 of them), because Germans were experimenting with Rubber coating. This wasnt pretty succesfull, because rubber fell of on some places on the sub, after a couple weeks at sea. Thats why only 3 were built.

IT doesn't surprise me that AGAIN they were on to something good, too late. Just like with the whole Type21, the jet ME plane, and of course the nuke. we all should be happy they went to war 3 years earlier than planned.

How about making a skin with the colours of the Russian minisub that got stuck lately? That would definitely draw some attention! :rotfl:

Good thing they got rescued, by the way. Nothing like happy endings in real life!

Oh and I hope you make one of those black skins for the XXI. My U-2502 would look very sexy in it...

From what I've read, most of the three boats with the Alberich coating spent most of their time going back to port to get the rubber coating replaced where it kept coming off.
One of the boats was fairly successful with this, and sank several ships in the English Channel, and getting away undetected. Main reason for the failure of Alberich was the Germans couldn't find a glue that would hold up for any length of time. I believe they finally got it sorted out just before the war's end (too little, too late yet again)...
