Default Sunk a DD... with my periscope

I was ordered to do a photo recon of a harbor on the coast of Borneo. There was a DD going back and forth across the harbor mouth. I got the photo but then the DD either heard me or saw my scope and came running towards me. It went right over top of me and I lost my scope, but then noticed the "kill" marker on the chart. I raised my other scope to be treated to a view of a sinking DD. I had 0 hull damage and no other damage except one destroyed scope... too bad I didn't get credit for the kill.

The USN builds very strong periscopes, don't see why we waste time and money with those unreliable torpedoes when we could just ram em with the scope. If you got the scope down most times it won't even get damaged.

You didn't know? That's what the observation periscope is there for!

Unfortunately the stock SH4 subs are armored like a BB. If you load a mod like TMO, or RFB you will notice that the subs are quite vulnerable in that althought the tin can would take damage you would also be in dire straits.

Happy Hunting!

ever leave a port before and just rub/bump a lil against the edge of the dock becuase you turned a lil sharp on exiting? you can darn near sink your sub with the damage it causes. =( a lil touch senstitive.

today i had something odd happen. i was practicing sub tactics on a destroyer and a plane came in at steep dive bomb attack. the destroyer was right on my rear almost on top of me chasing me and i was at periscope depth. i was just hitting the hard to one side rudder and the destroyer got hit by the planes attack. pretty funny. wish that happened more often. made me laugh.. i wish i had a screenie of it but didnt expect it coming.

Haha, yes. it's there to 'Observe' the damage you did with your 'Attack' periscope. The names make sense now!

Nisgeis.

Any plans to create your radar mods to work with TMo 1.9? Perhaps the readout could be in yards instead of meters? I would love to use the radar mods but when I tried in 1.7 they always broke TMO's interior free cam.

Would be great to have that radar range digital readout in yards and so it wouldnt break the cam.

Didn't they fix that with the 1.4 patch?

Only just started playing again after all this time, so I haven't tried the extra large torpedo technique yet, though it's tempting now most of my torps miss, stupid snake hipped merchants.

I thought there was a version for TMO. The game only has the radar range in meters and it's seperated out, so digit 4 (thousands) has a value of 4, instead of 4000. I'll have a look at it again when I've finished my current mod. Have you tried Hitman's radar combimod? That has a scale on the 'A' Scope that can be used to read off range in yards.

@orangenee: Yes, they did tone it down a bit, as from what I remember, being run over did no damage to you and loads to the escort, so it's a fairer balance now.
