If I wanted to insult him I would have insulted him. I was trying to figure out how many times he rearmed. So, I took the conservative position. It is not possible to tell from his post. I try not to rearm, as that leads me to waste torpedoes. 86 ships is a lot of ships, and since he is proud of his achievements I thought I would try to figure out how many times he went on the attack. Maybe I should have asked him? Maybe he is an Ace?

Maybe. Not safe to assume something based on his post count/join date. He could have been an original programmer on SH1 for all we know.

The reason I made the remark is he told you he went on 3 Patrols and you stated "it is not possible to sink 86 ships if you only refuel and replenish the topedo payload three times" and " you had to be playing with unlimited torpedoes" So I am showing that he did not have to be playing with unlimited torpedoes because 3 Patrols is different than 3 Refits and you simply misunderstood what he said.

"I submit that this is an impossibility unless manual targeting turned off and/or you have unlimited torpedoes." And I submit that it is not Impossible because you were assuming he only reloaded 3 times, and that is not what he said.

He told you how many ships he sank, that he used manual targeting and did not have unlimited torpedoes and there was no need for you to imply he was not telling the truth.
After you tell him you don't believe him and then tell him he can't learn manual targeting in a month (people can learn it in a day) you don't accept my explanation and basically tell me to butt out you will do what you want with your "If I wanted to insult him I would have insulted him"

So carry on. But don't try to hide behind " I was trying to figure out how many times he rearmed." You flat out told him what he was saying was impossible.

Maybe you should read Webster's signature line again.

What makes the game great is your ability to play it the way you want. If I load up my slightly subnuclear Mark 14s and Cuties, plus my slightly subnuclear deck gun I can sink 100,000 tons in ten minutes. You should try it some time. It's a blast!

On the other hand, I can load up TMO, restrict myself to no reloads on a cruise, load up RSRD and consider myself to have a banner cruise if I can down 30,000 tons.

But it would be foolish to compare the two numbers. It would be equally foolish for the 30,000 ton guy to disparage the 100,000 ton in 10 minutes guy or the other way around either. Both achievements are notable. Both were fun. What's not to like?

Each of us plays the game to our own taste. Although we are free to describe the way we play in an enticing way so as to induce others to do it our way, requiring them to play our way just doesn't make sense. When you take the right to someone else's freedom, you give consent for your own to be taken.

He didnt state if he used the deck gun...also he could be counting junks, fishing boats, and sampans. Those add up pretty quick as you often come acrossed them in 2's or 3;s.

I use the ordinary 4.5 gun. The canon mate is upgraded to a sharpshooter during the game.

Basically I don"t sink sampan and the little boats, the were owned by local people during WW 2 and were under threat by the japanese.

Rockin: You are right: All the various possibilities to succeed and stay alive until war end make the game exceptional.
Since Aces of the deep !

Note, hey you guys are coming from sunshine state and california, nice weather over there.

And a lot of those friendly little Sampans were giving away your locations too. I mean wouldn't you tell someone if you say the enemy attacking even if you were not in the military. I am not saying go shoot up a bunch of Sampans but that is why some people do.
