Thanks Archlight I'm looking for reasons not to justify buying this game now the low fps is off the list of reasons. I can afford it but somehow I don't feel the tingling to go and buy it maybe part of getting older I'm getting very picky and critical. However the good comments and praises made me having second thoughts and the question of what the hell am i actually missing. I read the reviews, saw the videos still no tingling to go and buy this.

I was running at 1680 x 1050. Hmm...maybe I should check into something here.

EDIT: Lowered the resolution to 1280 x 960, turned off vsync and frame buffer effects and still getting fps in the low teens.

I just did that part too. Alistair and Morrigan's snipping at each other in the town is too funny. I'm really liking the voice actor for Alistair...he's got that "annoyed resignation" tone down.
Runs just fine on an e6300, 3850 512mb and 4gb of 1066mhz ddr2. It could be that the 8500's suck a little and the game does not scale well with sli?

Anyone know if you can get any of the Darkspawn armor sets in the game? They look awesome.

I think I'll wait for the first patch before I get the game, just to be sure, as this one seems very Warhammer-ish, so the last thing I want is to have the game but not be able to play it.

Only reason I can think of why you can't play it is because it's so damn difficult!

Honestly, defended a town from an undead attack to which there seemed to be no end. Now I'm in the castle to get to the source, but I'm having some serious difficulty. Walked into a room with 5 of those Mabari Hounds and they tore my whole party to shreds in 30 secs.

Oh, and just before that I walked into a room with a demon or something with 3 or so lesser demons, barely scratched the big one before getting wiped out. Walked around that room after loading, think I'll give those hounds a wide berth next time too.

There honestly isn't a reason not to get this one, if you like the way Bioware does an RPG. It's got an engaging story, never a dull moment, good dialogs, good voice-acting, well thought out combat/stats system, excellent humour, atmospheric settings, intriguing characters and plenty of content.

Oh, and challenging to boot. I'm honestly considering switching to "easy", something I probably haven't done in over 10 years. (but I'll try swapping out some party-members first )

*though I would recommend a 8800GT/9800GT as a minimum, or something similar/close.

I'd say it's an issue with SLI as well. Still ran fine for me at 1600x1200. Can't imagine it uses so much RAM, it runs on consoles as well, after all.

I've thrown up my hands at this one. I cleaned out HD space, downloaded the newest nvidia drivers, killed every non-essential running program, monkeyed with the nvidia control panel and I still can't squeeze any more than 15 fps out of this. Still very playable though.

Ah well, it's new computer time next month, so I'll bear with it until then.

The patch 1.01a can cause problems starting the game. Had to reinstall the game.

Had a quick 20min play and seems to run pretty nicely. Could be better, but it's enough for me (maybe 25-30fps with very high).

Then I BSOD'd due to overheating.

Here is my horror story

Downloaded and installed the game just fine.

Watched the opening trailer.

Decided to create a charecter and was fussing with settings like hair color when the game locked up with strange green rectangles on the screen.

No problem maybe just a glitch and I re-boot.

Now my entire screen is covered with green rectangles. Not just the game but from bios boot onward. Deskt top... covered with green rectangles.

The game killed my video card

Heh funny story about Oblivion for me too.

When I first got it I realized my old video card wasent gonna cut it.

I went out and bought a new ati x1800 (new at the time). Installed it and wow what a difference smooth as butter. But wow that fan sure is noisy its spinnig for all its worth. Oh well Ill get used to it.

So there I am sneaking around in another infernal tower lining up a shot on a dremora when there was a loud "SNAP" the screen goes blank and the smell of ozone fills the room. I just sat there and stared at the black screen with that erie 'oh ****' feeling comming over me.

The fuse in the power supply had blown (a fuse actually worked for once). Duh.. the old power supply could not supply enough current and finally popped the fuse. No other damage. The fan was running its ass off due to the switching power supply trying to keep the voltage up while overloaded.

New power supply and have been cruising along ever since. Till last night.

It is a bit silly to blame a game for hardware failure, but whatever rocks your boat.
